I am drowning in a digital sea
| | | Sewing machine < on 7/18/2007 3:57 PM >
| | | This shot was very very hard to get, I shot it with a point n shoot so I dont have the DOF I would have liked...or the exposure come to think of it but what can you do with a shitty olympus that you cant change the settings on. I believe I light painted this one...
Can anyone give suggestions on how to improve my shots... especially with a point n shoot

|
Like has been said many times here. It's not the camera that makes the photographer, it's the photographer that makes the camera. I use P&S cameras and mine are just fine. You just have to mess with the manual settings some, and use a tripod if you don't already..

| | | I agree with that statement if you can mess with manual settings, all I can do is mess with the little options wheel. It makes it kind of challenging which is good, it drives me to be better

the problem here is that if you know how to shoot manual, and you know what you want to do, and how to do it, a point and shoot just won't cut it. it THINKS it knows what you want even when it doesn't and you can't override it.

AMEN! I can't tell you how long I dealt with that myself. It was a blessing to finally get some equipment that I didn't want to chuck out the window! As for point & shoot-- I love my Olympus, if for nothing else, for it's water resistance. It's served me well & never disappoints if there is something I am desperate to catch. I never paint or adjust anything so you're one up on me there.

personally i'd go with an elan or something like that. a little more pricey but a little more modern and will flow into more advanced shooting when the time comes

I have a Kodak EasyShare Dual Lens digital, throw it in my pocket and go camera. It does EXACTLY what I want it to on manual. So my point and shoot DOES cut it. Although I do like my Canon AV-1... She's my baby and I love her.

| | | Kind of a boring angle... spice it up and photograph it from the needle's POV.

I think its simplicity is the main selling point. It's also a camera that you won't ever worry about. Had a couple in my family. They stood up great even to marine environments. Sea kayaking around Alaska and much much more. It's a cheap start and a time tested camera.
