|  | | | Crownsville State Hospital was opened in 1910 as the "Hospital for the Maryland Negro Insane." Located near Annapolis, Maryland, it closed its doors on July 1, 2004. It had the worst conditions of any mental hospital in Maryland about 50 years ago. Development plans are still in the works, but so far as I have heard, nothing has been demo'd yet, and some buildings are still occupied. Some people want to build McMansions and a mall there, but I hope that does not happen.
