What a zoo

This one is a little different. Twenty years ago, when I visited the
Knoxville Zoo, there was an elephant pit along the entrance road as you
were driving in. It was about a half-mile from the zoo proper; you
couldn't even really stop to look at them. They were just a teaser of
the main event.

Today the pit stands empty and abandoned. It's apparently flooded
repeatedly; the point where I was standing was under at least five or
six feet of water fairly recently. The day I visited the artificial
lagoon was back to its normal levels. The elephants are long gone; the
only occupant we found was this small angry little bird guarding its
clutch of eggs.

Yep, the very same. This is off Knoxville Zoo Drive, also known as Timothy Avenue. I just looked it up in Google Maps, it's flooded in the image they have. Also, the old houses surrounding it are mostly gone now.
