How is THIS place not on here? - Blood, mercury, and cable tv! *32 pic embed warning*

This place is probably one of my favorite places around. A beautiful old asylum only 15 minutes from home!! Who could ask for more!? Parts of the campus were previously abandoned, but these buildings here were quite active until just recently (recently being a few months). You can see that the place still has electricity, running water, working a/c, cable, and even a working computer! This would be squatter heaven if it weren't for the 24 hour guard, good boarding job and setting in an upscale community. Sadly, I don't know how much longer it'll be around because a sign advertising condos in the future has popped up on the grounds. This place is huge by the way, these pictures only scratch the surface of how big the place is. My pics from the roofs didn't come out for some reason, but I'll be going back sometimes soon to get more. Also, I have yet to see or hear mention of this place at all. Weird to me since it's such a huge awesome place. If anybody else has been here lemme know, but please don't give up the location!! Enjoy!!

All photos taken with a Canon Rebel S, on Kodak ISO 400 film. Processing done by CVS who has been slacking lately.... No post-processing because I'm not cool with photoshop like that. I suck at light painting, and I know it, so you don't need to point it out, I'm getting better damnit!

1. We all love hallways right?!

2. Well here's another for ya

3. The well-known stairway shot

4. I dunno wtf this does, but it reminded me embalming equipment.

5. What is it?!!

6. I love the symmetry....and the lamps

7. Working X-Ray machine

8. Another hallway shot...notice all the lights on

9. Oh the money the things in this room would've saved me on processing... Too bad I don't have a darkroom at home......

10. Pool anybody? Balls and cue's not pictured, but there! There was also a working air hockey table!

11. I know it's blurry but eh.. thought it was worth adding

12. Anybody have a stray hair? I think I can help you...

13. Is missing for a reason. It's actually not 13, it's just 12.5. 13 isn't a real number. *paranoid glance around* continue please
14. Yes that's ice in the freezer. One of the few working fridge's in the place. The non-working ones smelled like nothing I've ever experienced before.

15. Somebody's still paying for cable! Judge Judy was on!!

16. This sink wouldn't stop running...at least it wasn't flooding anything.

17. Unlike this thing, which WAS flooding everything.

18. Ovens? Dishwashers? Wha?

19. I'll mix YOUR batter

20. I hope they mean the fridge itself and not the safety mechanism!

21. Shown to Scale

22. It kept flipping over the chess board when you took it's queen...

23.

24. Another classic shot

25. Down the hall of records

26. It's all filed away

27. This room was pitch black, this is a proud moment for me because I actually light painted and had it work! WoOhoO!

28. Notice the sign below it saying "lunch" - I didn't even know it was there till I saw it now!

29. I suppose this should've been in that garbage pail... That's what really seems to be real blood, it's dried black in some spots, but it's also on stainless steel, which would explain why it's still wet. Oh yea, and thats mercury sitting on top of it. That shit was all over that counter! Yikes!

30. I would've left a UER page open on it, but internet access was restricted at the time

31. I just found this ironic being in a mental institution

32. Damn kids! Now I know how my neighbors felt when I played baseball on the street...

33. The last one... also completely pitch black other than the flashlight I used to light paint. 30 second exposure time as well, and still clear as a bell! I'm learning damnit!!

Hope you enjoyed!!

nice.. you gonna move in now?

maybe rent it out to unsuspecting tenants..

Meh, i get nothing out of this place...

Then again, I've seen very little.

It's pretty gay tho that security hangs out in the buildings and its patrolled by a county sheriff.

Speed - Hmm if it was posted I haven't seen it... And I did look before making such a claim... oh well.

Lord- Lol, yea right, I could probably pull it off unless they wanted to see it first ;-P

Fudgy - Yep, we even played some air hockey, it works if ya plug it in! And yea I was thinking about that soda, if only it didn't smell so shitty in those fridges, bleh. And yea, I know, but I don't have photoshop and eventually hope I get good enough with the camera to not even need to touch anything up. I've only been into photography for 2 mnths now...

Acts- I think it's alot better than even most places as far as the amount of interesting and neat stuff still lying around. Maybe the architecture isn't as pleasing, but I can say I found more than a few nice structural designs... To each his own of course!

Nice work, and the writeups are funny. Strange how these sites are popping up with electricity and cable still on.

There are a few photos in there from that place.

I've been here numerous times.

Did you see my bedroom on ward 36? I sleep there from time to time when i don't feel like driving home, or when i feel like spending an entire day shooting.
How about the big screen? The power plant? Laundry(which, by the way, has some awesome grounds plans)? It looks like you missed a lot of the cooler things on campus. That's no fun, dude.

Get some slower film, a cable release, and stop using the 400ASA. You'll be much happier with your photos.

Damn contagion, now that you mention it I might've seen where you stay. I walked into one of the rooms and I was like... shit.. this so looks like somebody has been sleeping here. Lol, then again, those beds all for the most part seem in fine condition, lol, I laid down on one for awhile myself. And yea I saw the big screen, that thing is awesome, when the hell do you think it was made? It's almost as deep as it is wide!! I wish it still worked... And yea, I was in the power plant about a month ago, but I didn't have a camera on me so I couldn't get any pics... I did however climb up onto that sketchy catwalk... And laundry, I'm not sure... I know I was in that area... I'll haveta find it next time.

And thanks a bunch for the tips, I really appreciate that stuff, I'd like all the help I can get!!

I disagree with that.... If you can't take make a picture look right when you first take it, why turn it into something that you couldn't do in the first place? I dunno, it's just what I think. I like the rawness better. I don't mean to say that there aren't any exceptions though... There are always exceptions.....
