| | | I'm looking at getting a pair of these, but have no idea about the sizing. My exact shoe size is UK 8, so do I order for my exact shoe size, or one above/below?

| | | If it's at all possible for you to get some from an actual store, I'd recommend that. When I bought mine, I had to try on about four pairs before I figured out which size worked best for me. They don't fit quite like normal shoes, so it's best if you can try them and make sure they're just how you want them for running and climbing. --WR

| | | OK well I've ordered size 8. If it's not right I could always send it back, and try a different size...

What kind of actual store sells Tabi boots? I suppose if there was a martial arts store around they might... but I had never heard of these things before I got into UE, so I am assuming they aren't available at, say, Foot Locker. -- matcauthorn

| | | martial arts supply stores, "spy" stores, etc.... I picked up my pair for around 12 bux after tax... as far as sizing goes, i have 1 pair of tabi shoes with a pair of tabi socks that are fitted, my boots however are 1/2 size larger... the main reason is, i wear them with 2 pair of socks and have waterproofed the hell out of them... A friend of mine in england sent me a nice kung fu uniform to go with them as she got tired of seeing me wear them with blue jeans.... of course a diff friend sent me a straight jacket for xmas, so that may say something ;)

People wear boots to keep their feet dry in a drain, or hiking boots for traction on a hike... there's little difference with the logic of tabi boots for climbing and silence...

| | | I actually met a guy wearing Tabi the other day, he was one of the local hippie ninjas (Fairbanks has a lot for some reason, they even have a special store that sells shurikens and pot pipes). I asked him about climbing and he said they were good for that, but he mostly liked the comfort and flexibility they offered. As Jester said, Tabi are just another specialized tool for UE, like drain boots or camo or headlamps. They're not absolutely necessary, but they make things easier and more comfortable. I'm still trying to find Tabi for my freakishly (heh) large feet, apparently very few places offer them in size 13

| | | http://www.allblackbelt.com/nequipment.html http://shop.store.yahoo.com/karatemartinc/ftw004.html they have them in size 13 I have had mine for around a year now, comfortable as hell. I wear them every now and then for climbing fences, some draining... but i wear them more often when working on cabling contracts and the like. Climbing around old drop ceilings that are 10-15 feet down from the original ceiling is bad enough in a pair of work boots, the tabis allow far greater grip and tactile feedback when walking along dividing walls or structural beams.

| | | Does anyone have any recommendations for tabi brands or sites? As with many things, (especially martial arts supplies) I imagine there are good quality tabis and cheap knock offs that fall apart a week after you get them. Anyone come across either end of the spectrum?
