UEF Update: FAU Utility Tunnels!

Wow, this was a great exploration. Big thanks to Krazy for the tip, I may have never found this otherwise. I had given up hope for finding anything underground in South Florida, thanks for proving me wrong!

This was quite a crazy trip, and I even managed to use my newly endowed moderator ninja powers to make myself disappear from the sight of a maintenance worker who was a mere 15 feet from me in an open area of the physical plant. Check out the update for all the details:

Wow, very very nice stuff! I still never would've thunk that FAU had utilitiy tunnels. I mean it's Florida, you dig 2ft and you hit water in some spots for christs sake! ;)

Great pictures and very cool find!

Sweet update guys! That's great!

The old guy probably didn't see you because he didn't expect to see anyone. Or something. The mind works in mysterious ways.

I just added this picture to the update. It's just a section cropped from the full resolution image of one of the pics inside the physical plant. What do you guys think?

I can't be 100% sure, but the worker was wearing a blue uniform and had grey hair, so it's quite possible that was actually him in the picture.

THIS is why I UE.

Excitement and discovery first, good photos second.

You seem to have accomplished both. Excellent!

sweet! Glad the tip worked out. I'm curious to se how long what I sent you stays where it is now.

As for the picture, you said gray hair/blue uniform, right? The thing in that picture looks sort of like a valve wheel to me. ;)

How long was the exposure time? there does seem to be some streaky thing in the picture between the shiny pipe on the left and the valve wheel. could be.

I assume you're a mini-tripod kind of guy, right? all of your pictures are on the floor or on top of a pipe or something.

This reminds me:

I know for a fact that that was a worker in shorts, bending over to pick something up. I had just walked into the mech room, saw him with his back turned, took the picture and quickly backed out.

Fun times.

That picture was a 1 second exposure F2.8, no flash. You are correct, I was using a mini tripod most of that trip. I like full tripods, but lugging one around in an active location is neither convenient (especially when crawling over/under pipes) or stealthy so I generally only take that with me to abandoned places.
