| | Gloucester, VA abandoned house on rt. 17 torn down < on 6/22/2007 4:19 AM >
| | | Like a mile into gloucester county on left across from a shopping center there has always been (at least for my lifetime) a 3 story abandoned house. It was torn down last week to build a housing development (i think?). I had been in that house once 5-6 years ago with a friend of mine by walking through the woods behind it. it was very large, had to be 2200+ square feet. i don't remember to much about it other than finding food stamps and clothes with curious stains on them. this was before i had any interest in old buildings like i do now so i can't remember specifics about it. i asked my parents (both whom are from this area) and they said no one had lived on that property since they were young, like in the early 70's. if anyone has any old pics or stories i love to hear about them. its sad to see the ue possibilities disappear

| | | I drove by it some time last month and was actually planning to check the place out sometime soon, guess that'll never happen now.

| | | No, it's pretty sad cause it would have been a pretty easy place to get in and I drove by it at least once a week. Do you know if that house on the York River is still standing? If so I'll probably go explore it again with my new camera and get some pics. It was pretty cool from what I remember.

i just got back from trying to go there. good parking, short walk mostly out of view, nice day, and secluded. i got out of my car starting snapping pics of the stream next to where i parked, then proceeded down the trail. got a good view of mumford island off the shore and i heard people. i guess just enjoying the beach. but the fear of someone asking questions like why i had shoes and socks on and a camera by myself on the beach made me turn around. i left and came back 1/2 hour later only to find they were still there. maybe next time. old dock going into stream
one of the car
idea on way back
might be hard to get into(gas station) and right on highway check out the collapsed roof!

| | | I had actually been wondering about that house, whenever I went to the purina factory i passed it and always wanted to check it out. Last time I was in gloucester, I didn't see it but I wasn't exactly sure where it was so I thought I already passed it or something. Seemed like it would have been a really cool place to explore.
