Like many places in coastal Louisiana, there were still signs outside for a pre-Katrina election; for some reason the signs for polling places were amazingly storm-resistant. These pictures were taken from the doorway of the building; given the fact that I was alone and the condition of the floor, I didn't venture inside. My sister asked a good question - were the chairs stacked up before the storm, and survived it that way, or did someone actually stack them up afterwards. Personally, I think it's the former; the floor of this building is a good four feet above ground level, and the damage, though severe, could have occurred from water that never got more than a few inches above the floor level.
