Water Towers, Anyone?

Anyone besides me go into water towers when they're under construction? I know it's a rare occasion that you find a water tower being built, and even rarer that you can get to it, let alone get into it, but what's inside is usually pretty interesting.

I was living on the far east side of St. Paul last year, and about a half mile from my house, they were building a water tower out on some empty land that used to be a corn field. This wasn't some dinky little small town water tower, either. This thing was huge; at least 150 feet tall and 20 yards wide at the base.

SO, I had to get a few friends together ang go investigate. The interior was almost all open space; four levels of cat-walks and ladders led all the way up to the storage sphere at the top. We climbed all the way up and into the sphere, finding that it was about 30 yards in diameter. Up the center shaft of the tower, including inside the storage sphere, was a ladder going up to the top of the tower and out onto it. So, we climbed up and out.

The view was incredible. You could see all the way into Hudson if you looked east, and all the way to the factories on the mississippi if you looked west.

That was a good summer...

Yeah, well, having your planet blown up can have that effect on a species.

Now the two key words for tonight - "caution" and "flammable"...

I've worked on top of a water tank, wasn't all that great.. Although the view was nice it wasn't that high up (150ft) and it was between two busy ass rail tracks that had freight trains going threw the town ever 5 min or so, blasting their horns the entire time until they cleared the town.. Although we could see Byron nuclear power plant (at least the cooling towers) clearly in the distance from up there, which was kinda cool..
