I like it, it's really quite pretty. Now, I'm new to the whole photo deal, could you tell me how you pulled that off?

kinda hard to explain...Some people get this result by developing film in the wrong chemical for that film or a combination of chemicals...any good photo processing place will do it for ya...Ive even heard of walmart doing it on occasion.. I myself being a control freak scanned the negative and did all my cross processing through photoshop.... convert the RGB color input signal into CMYK color... Play with the curves and the levels until you get the result your looking for and add a subtle cooling filter...Then as simple as adding a adjustment layer go to channel mixer...Click ok...Click monochrome and change blending mode to overlay...Put a diffuse glow on it with very low levels...Just play with it basically...I dont know if that helped or not but google it if your interested

thanks for the comment

Ah, so post processing, not cross processing. I was wondering why it was too blue/cyan, it's not quite green enough.

I don't really get cross processing to begin with, so I'm not really sure why you'd go to the trouble of faking it, aside from to save an otherwise boring picture. Sorry, it's just not incredibly exciting, and the glass in the front bottom left isn't sharp (in the photo sense). Nothing particularly wrong with this image (other than the photoshop job), but nothing particularly right either.

With some nicer light, no photoshop gimmickry, and slightly deeper depth of field, this could be really nice though.

yep.

Acually its not faking it..Read a book on cross processing and they will mention the way of doing it in photoshop...Its not gimmickery...the origianl image had great depth of feild...and also not all cross processing is green...Cmyk cross processing gives it a little of a blue feel to it...There are lots of different methods for cross processing...Lost sharpness in processing....But thanks you for your critique

Hmmmm now that I see the original and I know you did it on photo shop I dont know what to think! to start off i really dont care to much about cross processing cause I think it looks to photo shopy, not that i hate photo shop cause im going to school for graphic design... but I really like the bules in the p.s. one because most c.p stuff I have seen is really green or yellowish. If the original picture was set better i would like it more, I dont like how the window sill in the right bottom corner isnt alined with the sides of the picture you know what I mean?

I know what ya mean about it not being aligned... It was my first day with my macro lens and i was more focused on the detail of the glass and the depth....didnt even notice that at the time..I dont usually post things on here...But i read an article on cross processing using photoshop...It didnt have a tutorial or anything but it explained the use of cmyk color mode to create cross processing look...It explained cmyk will produce a cyan or blueish tint which i like...Dont really care for the c41 which produced more of a green...thanks for your critique

Technically, cross processing means processing film in chemicals meant for a different type of film. So if you want to call the photoshop version 'faking it' or not, it's still not cross processing. It's post processing, which is processing that you do after your capture, with capture meaning a scan, a digital photograph, etc. CMYK 'cross processing' is a photoshop term. Cross processing most commonly involves processing film meant for E6 in C41 chemistry, or vice-versa. This usually results in a slightly cyan, very greenish tint.

Also, the glass in the front bottom left is not as sharp as the rest of the glass. Whether your processing made it worse or not, it's not as sharp as it should be to make the photo work.

If you're going to use photoshop to imitate cross processing, there's no need to throw away colour gamut by using CMYK. Try this one, you can leave your image in RGB:
http://www.photosh...ss-processing.html
If you want to get fancy (and know what you're doing) LAB mode is probably even faster for this type of special effect.

Actually it was the first article that came up in google, and I didn't copy and paste anything. I'm trying to be helpful, by offering criticism and suggestions on how to improve your photo. This is, after all, the critique forum that you posted in. If you want to see only the negative and not the positive, and don't want to use the helpful information I'm posting, that's up to you.

If you think I'm swinging a big dick, well, thanks for thinking I have a big dick. You're probably alone on that one, but thanks anyways.

Because it's a technical art, that's why.

Short enough answer for you?

I was just playing there mortimer...Relax take a breath...have a smoke, maybe two. I appreciate all critiques... As you can see my photograph looked nothing like the one you found on the most popular photoshop website....Next time you google just type CMYK Processing... Cmyk is not only a photoshop term...

Why didn't you just pick up a roll of say, Velvia or Provia, shoot it, and drop it off at CVS, Walmart, Eckerd, etc. with "Process E-6" scratched off?
I really don't like things that are over-processed, as a general rule, so this is rather distasteful after i see the original photo(which is still not good).
Don't try to replicate the things that film can do. Go buy a decent SLR, a lens, and some slide film and just shoot it off. Cheap imitations don't do the trick for me.
