Niagara Falls - Ontario Hydro Building?

So from what I've heard this place used to be owned by Ontario Hydro, and used to be their welding shop? I'm sure other stuff wen ton as well though. Though a lot of the fence is cut apart, and windows broken, the inside is in really good condition - not much to vandalize as its all steel, wood or concrete, and hardly any graffiti.

This tower is used for excess water flow, or something like that.

This room was full of empty racks and wires

This stairway led up to a platform...

Which had nothing on it, except a huge gate that had a 1 story fall.

The basement, everything was falling from the ceiling but other than that it was a decent place.

We found this in the basement, notice the language... anyone know what it is?

This AWESOME staircase is completely sturdy, just like the rest of the building, and goes from the basement all the way to the 2nd floor

I took this while standing on a waist high ledge. the bottom area goes into the basement, and the other door goes to the main floor. The area we're in is a long hallway with little enclaves that resemble the do-it-yourself car washes. one even had a sprinkler. They weren't wide enough for cars, and had no doors opposite them to go outside. I'd love to know what they were used for though.

This door is the bottom one of the top picture.

This is a catwalk along some 8 foot deep sections that were used for god knows what. The bottoms had little puddles, and various equipment.

I took this picture to show the size of the doors.. and the light bulbs.. cause they are big . The doors are all like 8-10' tall, and extra wide too.

This is a double door. Bottom one regular size and the top adds another 5', this goes out into the hallway with the stalls.

Top floor, office area and then there a long line of transformer coils or something, not sure. the left side is roof access, gives a nice view. Another cool feature of the building is wheel attached to a chain attached to a looooong pipe, which was attached to wire THEN attached to windows on the inside. Cranking the wheel opened about 14 windows along the length of the place.

If my camera hadn't died halfway through there'd be more picture. If my camera was nicer there'd be better ones, I think, haha. Theres also a few other buildings, but they are mostly locked, though they appear empty still. I'm gunnna go back soon and get on top of the tank and see whats to see

Nice job. I've been trying to get inside that place for years now.

That used to be the transformer house for the Toronto Power Co. station. They were forced to build it that far away so that it wouldn't detract from the scenery surrounding the Falls. They did the same thing with Rankine's transformer house which is located just a bit further down the road.

Congrats Mcrae! Every time I have been by there its been boarded up . I for some reason did expect it to *look * older inside. The winding staircase is pretty neat, you don't see those very often.

Wow, this place is still around...? I thought it was demolished years ago. It was the TS for the Toronto Power Company, then it was used as a welding shop for while after it closed.

I don't have a picture. It's the relatively nice old building that's at the corner of Portage and Marineland Parkway (or whatever it's called). Best to keep away though since it's still owned and operated by Fortis and is probably still connected to the transmission lines that run through there. It's not uncommon to see their service trucks parked outside.

1. Nice shots.

2. I did a web search for the words under the gauges, and though I couldn't understand a single word, most of the sites that came up had Swedish domain names, so I'm assuming that those words are Swedish.

3. Take extra batteries next time.
