| | St. Elizabeth's Hospital < on 6/17/2007 3:50 PM >
| | | St. Elizabeth's Hospital is slated to become a fenced off citadel for the new DHS HQ. Plans were announced for this on 20 March 2007, and we all must get there before everything starts to be torn down in the Fall for this fortress! Theres an article about this in todays Washington Post, and we must say NO, for the sake of Ward 8! [last edit 6/17/2007 3:51 PM by 90rock - edited 1 times]

| | | Good luck, you will not get 15 paces onto the property before the feds get you. They have real security there, not just some guy with a flashlight. Expect to see cops, federal agents and maybe even MPs. Also, they are refurbishing almost all of the campus, not tearing it down. So I really don't mind what they are doing because in affect this is one kirkbride that will stand for many many many years to come.

| | | Let me know when you're planning on your epic adventure into St E's so I can take a seat across the lawn with some popcorn and watch you boldly conquer the Kirk. I hope they're gentle when they find you.
Get down, girl, go 'head, get down. |

| | | Well actually I just went down there earlier today and I got a visitors pass to the grounds. In the plan. they'll block off Martin Luther King Avenue with the wall and Anti-Tank barriers. If you say you're just headed to "The Point" or "The Greenhouses" you'll be fine. NRHP says they will demo the buildings for DHS. But when I went down there, there were MPDs but no Marines with M16s. BTW, I know how to get around the gates and everything, I know where there are no brick walls and shortcuts and back entrances, I used to live in Anacostia. (I just hope my car doesnt get stolen when I park it in the surrounding neighborhood.) [last edit 6/18/2007 1:49 AM by 90rock - edited 5 times]

Everything has been sealed, and ventilation was installed. Every building has had it done.

Being a DHS-owned location, they are trying to keep it all hush-hush. It's all pretty gutted and ugly by now. The unofficial word is that the gov't intentionally set the multiple fires so that they could rebuild the campus as they saw fit. Good luck proving that!!
