Down in Venice, Louisiana there are open fields, hundreds of yards long,
filled with boats that have been salvaged in the wake of Katrina.
House boats, yachts, pleasure craft, and big fising boats like these are
all piled up on dry land like discarded toys. Some owners have located
their property, and many who have simply spray paint a phone number on
it for any interested buyers.

Other boats still haven't been pulled to the salvage yards. These two
boats above are still alongside US 90 near Chef Mentuer; back in
December they were still lying in the middle of the road. These and
others are lying hundreds of yards from the nearest water. They bear
notice stickers from various state and federal authorities warning that
they'll be dragged to salvage yards similar to the one in Venice but the
dates on them are long past.

Wow. Thats cool how they're just sitting on the side of the road. Did you get to go inside any of them?

That's pretty cool...well unfortunate, but cool. I don't normally recommend taking stuff, but you could definitely get your hands on your own personal yacht out of that.

Well, the ones in the middle of the road are quite ... public. The ones in the salvage yard were bigger, and I would have needed a ladder. Considering that they're still, technically, allowed to shoot looters down there, I was cautious about anything more active than walking through an open door

Do they still have the checkpoints on the way out? Last time I was there was December and they still had them.
