We had a lovely two hours in there before we heard security coming and bolted.

History:
The Carleton student tunnels were use to transport students when it was too cold to walk outside. They were closed in the late eighties dues to asbestos (so they say) and now contain many more steam pipes and network cables. Although they are pretty hard to get into these days, it is still possible fro someone who doesn't mind long cramped crawls.

Here are a few more photos of the carleton tunnels -

i found a steel plate on the floor of the tunnel, banged on it, and it was hollow under it! so i got really excited, pried up the plate, slid it over, and found at least a foot of sandy dirt beneath it. i wonder what purpose this steel plate serves - maybe under the sand is earth, or maybe there is something else there, or something is buried in the sand...

i think there used to be lots of skylights like this one lining the tunnel ceilings because there are lots of boarded off recessed squares in the ceiling, but this one skylight still remains.

in spiderman's room that Steam posted a photo of, i found this hole in the wall. it looked like someone had chipped away at the concrete and stone - and on the other side of this wall there was a room. the hole wasn't big enough for my head, but i put my camera inside and took some photos. and there is a door to the room around the corner - but it was locked and i couldn't get it open.

Cool!, those tunnels have a lot of character.
