| | | Wow. I'm actually getting sick of seeing shots from this place. 2 years ago it was teh hot shit. I heard there were tons of people up there today. Still though, I enjoy 9 although I've seen that thing shot to death; your's is one of the better ones though.. In the church, you should have dropped the exposure down a tad on that shot. I'd like to see some more colors from all the stained glass. When shot correctly, that place can turn out a nice shot... theLean's (I believe) version comes to mind. Good work though, and don't take my criticism against the location (which I do actually love.) to heart. Some of your shots are pretty good. Since this is posted in the critiques section though.... Most seem a little snap-shotty though - 2,3,5, and 8. [last edit 4/23/2007 8:09 AM by seanblaze - edited 1 times]

| | | This will always be my favorite location, period. It sucks to see strings of lights running through there! Damn it all. It's just not the same without the wheelchairs. Nice macro work Mark. Thanks for sharing.

| | | Thanks! What is going on there though? I was looking forward to seeing the pool building but the whole thing was sealed and being abated. Also, parts of the auditorium building are being abated. Are they planning on knocking everything down?

| | | It is going to be 1/2 knocked down and 1/2 reused. It all depends upon who winds the dick-waving contest - the District or the Federal govt. I hope the Federal Gov't wins - that would preserve more buildings longer AND leave the adjacent juvenile facility abandoned for us to play in for a while.

| | | i love your first picture of the chairs, though you should crop out that piece of the bottom of the window sill. take a bit off the top and it will draw all the attention to the chairs with no distractions. check your pm box for more info about this place. you earned some trust last week with me, so i will share more. were you in the morgue in the morning, the life basket looks so blueish?

It was around 12, I didn't notice how blue it was until now. I'm not sure why though.

| | | Sweet mercy it sounds like there were a ton of people there this weekend. So if I was to start screenprinting some souvenir shirts and set up a stand in the woods...? Beautiful photos. I'd agree the chapel shot is a bit blown out, but the overall colors are great. I'd work a bit more on more intentional setups and composition, but it's a strong set.

| | | more. there are two kinds of tripod people when it comes to straightening the tripod during shots- those too lazy (or unskilled) to adjust their tripods to perfectly straight, and those who take the extra time to do so. i am the lazy kind, it kills the inspiration and moment for me to battle my tripod. so here's a suggestion- if you know this about yourself (well, i know this about you, i can see it) you can make a habit of zooming out a tiny little bit on shots. just a little, but this will give you some room to crop later on. and try experimenting with cropping. you might be able to add more interest to an item in a photo by cropping it perfectly, it can draw the eye to the right place. for instance #9, crop it to more square like. this will remove the edges of the door frame to the far left and right of the life basket and it will create more focus on it.

Thanks. I agree, that chapel shot is way too blown out. Its like the sun was directly on those windows, I would have redone it if I noticed it. About composition, I agree with this. I get really lazy adjusting the tripod, even though I usually do. I am also doing video so it gets kind of overwhelming. Things would be much different if I'd just choose one or the other, but thats a hard decision!

I think #9 is fine the way it is. The edges of the door add some depth to things and helps draw the eye in towards the subject. Plus, the aspect ratio works well and the textures help add some interest to things.

whoops. i meant #8, from the school building. crop the door edges on that one. and is that a broom handle? #9 could benefit from a tiny bit of cropping, but micro is correct, the edges of the wall adds to the photo.

| | | Nah, I didn't even know they were scrappers at the time. There just wasn't much to see in that building and I had no more water left so I was in a rush to see the more interesting buildings. I actually wanted to leave sooner but he kept talking. This is the second time I ran into scrappers and didn't know they were scrappers until after I get home!
