Of course they are closing, schools are not getting the tax dollars they need to stay open. After all they do have more important things to spend our money on.

Oh and throwing more money at an already HUGE problem is the answer? Maybe restructuring would be a better idea.

Only six?

Six can be a big deal especially considering that the cities are still growing in population, thats not just the burbs either. They haven't built new high volume schools or anything. I dunno, when there's six closing and kids still moving into the city it seems surprising to me. Besides budget issues (and the exception of Tuttle) they haven't had too many compelling reasons to cram more kids into already dense classrooms.

What I was saying is that the county is going to be paying a million dollars a year in taxpayer money for a new stadium for a baseball team, for something like the next 30 years. A baseball team that is a privately owned business and should have to pay for it's own facilities. Our children's educations should be more important than a baseball team. They want a stadium, let them pay for it, not our children.

If you don't agree that our children are more important than baseball, than I'm sure I can come up with a few other things more important than baseball. If you think that baseball, is not expendable at all costs, then I can probably find a few things that are less important than a new stadium, and schools, that can be cut. In general the government does not care about our children. Our schools are shit, and need more attention, more attention costs money. The problem is monetary, they are not restructuring the schools for fun. In order to fix our school system, they need more money, they can't make it better for free.

Nope. I have kids of my own. Not in your state, but close enough. Baseball is NOT more important, I agree, but I also don't think throwing more money at education so the boards can live fat and drive nice cars is the answer either.

A few years ago, didn't some one suggest that they would only sign a bill that would give more money to schools but only if the school boards were held more accountable for where that money went, and then got bitched at for not signing an education funding bill ? Or I could just be drunk.

It's possible, but that isn't stopping the libs from trying to steal your money.

The same deal is going down in St. Louis... 5 (I think) schools closing. Exploring them once this happens has crossed my mind.
