| | | New site (Story and problem) < on 4/13/2007 3:44 PM >
| | | I'm in Evansville, IN and I live near an old tuberculoses hospital that's been closed down for many years. I've always had reservations about going in, for a couple of reasons: asbestos and houses nearby. Well, yesterday Cowboy Wayne and I. along with Shai Hulud (Who I told about the site) and another friend chanced a trip there and we discovered that a few of the windows had been opened (the window had been completely removed), as well as an upper level door. We circled the building for a few minutes until we found a suitable entrance, which I obviously can't describe here. Either way Cowboy and Shai went in first while I watched the road. I suppose I should stop to describe the area. There is a fairly busy road that run through a wooded area dotted with houses on the road. The building itself is in a clearing on th west side of the road, and about thirty meters to the southwest of the building is an unoccupied house. About 50 meters south, up a small but steep hill and protected by a raised wooden fence is another house. 25 or so meters directly west of the building is a shed, which was locked. The hospital was also locked. Most of the ground level doors excpeting the front door are covered by a thin metal material bolted to the door itself. We surmised this was to cover breaches in the doors, not reinforce them. I was watching the road as Cowboy and Shai entered the building. If you decide to use this site, there will be cars. You will be seen by some people, unless you do it at 3 a.m. and are a ninja. Anyway, I shimmied in next, followed by our other friend. We found a beautiful interior, still mostly carpeted. After looking around a bit downstairs, we proceeded up and found the entirety of the interior doors on the stairs. The upstairs was carpeted, but we couldn't really tell because all of the secondary interior bick walls had been leveled and there was mad debris all over the entire floor of the building. 3 of us had our cameras, so we took some pictures and decided to head out. We delayed our departure a bit for a bathroom and a little gem Cowboy discovered: A small stage and open room on the main floor. We took a few pictures, bypassed the basement (for that visit) and headed out. All in all a good trip. I'd love to add this to the database, but Shai said he might do it, and I don't have my full member yet. However, since I found the building, am more familiar with the area, and am more familiar with the history, I'm sorta hoping he lets me do it. Who knows, though. All in all a good trip; No cops, no injuries, and hopefully some good pictures.

| | | I have applied for full membership. I was recommended but was told I'm not active enough. I use a 35mm SLR so the pics will be a little bit (gotta develop until I get a negative scanner) but they'll be up soon enough.

| | | Kewl, I live near where your talking about, and have yet to find time to get in. There is a college campus nearby, and kids try to get in all the time. So its watched heavily, and the cops are unforgiving. =/ Another thing, the people who own the place have a tunnel from one of the administration buildings to the hospital. So be careful if you go into the basement. (But do get pics!) [last edit 4/15/2007 5:26 PM by Radical Dreamer - edited 1 times]

| | | Ah I know this place very well. The house that I guess is now abandoned, used to be occupied by these crazy rednecks. I went there about 7 or 8 years ago, and was told it was demo'd. From the sounds of it, that is not the case. I'll be coming home for a few soon, if you want to do some exploring i may still have a few up my sleeve.

| | | Sounds like you had a good time. The problem of being seen on the grounds of a building can be mitigated by wearing a hard hat and having a safety vest on. That way you don't have to be a Ninja and you can go whenever you want.

| | | Similar. Radical Dreamer, you're talking about the wrong building I think. The state hospital is demolished, we did explore it before it was gone, and there were frequently cops there. But your description of a tunnel running from one of the buildings to another doesn't fit the TB hospital at all. The state hospital did have tunnels (I crawled through most of them) connecting some structures, but the TB hospital is only a single building. We haven't gone in the basement yet though, so no telling where the tunnels there might lead, if they exist.

| | | I'll get the pics up A.S.A.P. I'd like to have a few more to get developed so I don't waste time or money. Also they moved our entrance. I can't really elaborate but whew this complicates things.
