| | Tacoma/Ruston: The old Asarco smelter < on 4/10/2007 7:45 AM >
| | | I saw something in the newspaper this morning about it. Does anyone know anything about it or has anyone UE'd it? I'm really curious about it. Thanks.

| | | I remember this being in the news a few years ago, Asarco was an aluminum smelter IIRC and the factory looks sizable to say the least. A google search shows it all but the biggest thing to remember is that this was a smelter meaning lead & arsenic soil contamination. Hell, Asarco is a federally funded Superfund site meaning it's HEAVILY contaminated so I imagine eating the sand would be out of the question. Anyway, there seems to be parking in a residential neighborhood to the south of the plant/smelter that is less conspicuous and pretty close to the plant. Although there seems to be little cover for anyone walking to the smelter so who knows if people keep an eye on the place. My two cents, looks interesting.
