Wow what a place and was nice to see considering my latest stint of exploring bazalgette's amazing drains under london. The restoration work being done here is amazing and I will personally be sending money to them as they deserve it and so does the building. This building is also known as the Cathedral of Sewage

Beautiful!

Was this place always a treatment plant? Seems too ornate to be one.

Some really excellent photographs, just a tad too much saturation and contrast for my liking.

Bazalgette came in under budget on construction of the sewer network associated with the plants and so invested an amount of the underspend in further embellishing the outfall works beyond their already ornate status for a non-public building of unglamourous function. You've got to love the Victorian ethos!

Pictures: I like a fair few of them, the ones that capture the movement of the engine in operation particularly, e.g. 9 & 10, that's cool.

Thanks for all the comments, I tend to like a lot of contrast in my images at the moment, 9,10,11 and 12 were the only ones shot using a tripod the rest were hand held I was not in a very inspired mood so was mainly shooting snapshots, just to show the building but I shall be going back next open day hopefully.

yeah i agree there is a lot of saturation and contrast. i think it works though, BUT the blown out compeltely white windows are definitely distracting in sosme of these. overall really nice location and nice photos though/

This place is amazing, and I'm glad they're restoring it.

As for your photos, it's nice to see the details of the place, but I find the saturation and high level of contrast distracting. I guess it's a matter of taste though, since some like the intensity of the colors. Either way, thanks for posting them.

Incredible! It really puts new meaning to taking pride in your work!

The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave.

I am so glad you've got to see it ! Is it gorgeous or what ?

Too bad in a way there was people around you for your shots; me ,I was alone but with a so-so camera..nothing's ever perfect hey ?

And as you have to go with the flow,it's not always easy to take pictures with a tripod especially on that floor...I am in love with that incredibly beautiful metal floor..

Were you there on a steaming day ? I wish I'd seen that Prince Consort in action...a bit more than the miniature animated one !!!

Did you see the little film ? Precious isn't it ?

Did you have the chance to meet some of the volunteers doing the restoration ?
They are very incredible and passionate...As I said somewhere else,if I was in London,I would donate a lot of my time to join that crew !

Next time I am in London...I'm back there !
