| | | Posted by satsu Yes, that might have been my first post but unfortunately our illustrious post dispatch printed the article (pasted below) and I thought it might serve to remind us of the importance of choosing locations wisely-and keeping a backup plan. | I don't think the two shot men mentioned in the article were exploring. | | | They were exploring ways in which they might rob the recycling facility blind You're right of coarse, this story is NOT about explorers at all, but I chose to post it anyway as it seemed to be an object lesson demonstrating how things could possibly go wrong-especially in E.STL. Hopefully we can all learn from each others problems and mistakes and try not to repeat them. I wonder if there's any interest in an 'accidents' forum where people can report problems they have experienced (e.g. getting pinched, injured, falling through floors, collapsing buildings, fire-escapes, crack houses, agro squatters etc) and how they handled or mis-handled themselves/what they could have done to avoid the problem. These type of forums are very useful for divers who are interested in avoiding mistakes. Mehbe UER already has a forum like this that I have not yet found...?

Last time I was on the roof of UTower (probably five years ago), it wasn't particularly exciting as there were ten-foot walls all around the roof. Has that changed?

Read Memory Machines blog about the Soap Plant, but I think Armour would be a good place, as long as I'm in STL at the time, lol.

| | | The last post where I said something to the effect of "those guys weren't explorers" wasn't myself, but my wife (Kitmao) accidentally responding logged in as me. Not that it matters much though. It's true, those guys were thieves and that changes things quite a bit... but still, I enjoyed the information. It's a reminder of how things do occasionally go terribly wrong. I've encountered a crack den in use while visiting a place I'm very familiar with, and been thankful that its inhabitants were too fucked up to muster any concern over my presence (mind you I didn't stick around either). Had they been armed and homicidal... who knows what would have happened? Bad things can happen in day to day living too. For all the fears of being attacked by vagrants etc. while exploring, I got attacked by two guys out of the blue a week ago while strolling around my neighborhood. They didn't take anything (probably because I had nothing to take), but they fractured my skull and left me with a contusion to the brain. My upper lip had required stitches as well. So, I'm off work recovering for now, slowly feeling better but my head is still busted and it occasionally leaves me in a lot of pain despite the medications I've been prescribed. Be careful out there people, shit does indeed happen

| | | MOS: Were you attacked on Juneteenth? (j/k please don't mob me I hope you and your brain are OK. Stories like this make me cringe. Seriously tho, I am interested as to where you were walking when this happened, please give us more details. As much as people joke about STL being the #1 crime city in the US--I find that this is no joke. In the last couple years my house/garage/car has been broken into, robbed and/or vandalized at least 5 times and my neighbors have had the same experience-and that's in a nice, private, gated neighborhood with part-time security patrols right next to WashU. On the other hand, I have never been seriously hurt or beaten such as what you just experienced. Dependant on your philosophy and criminal record you may want to consider carrying or even getting a conceal and carry license. On a lighter note: I just heard about a quarry that has significant water in DuPont MO?....I'm wondering if there are any underwater urban explorers about Has anyone been in Uhrligs Cave(washington & jefferson), Cherokee Cave, or English Cave(under benton park)?? Has anyone ever developed any techniques for entering caves with blocked doorways/passageways/entrances? Seems to me if I was in a soundproof cave and there was a bricked in passage, I might consider removing the blockage... Also I'd love to get together for a BBQ anytime! Sooner the better! I am jonesing to get into STL caves and underground ASAP. Let's try and organize a meeting within the next few weeks-I'd be happy to help in any way to make this BBQ happen!

| | | I was attacked on June 11th, on Cherokee Street. I'm not giving the precise location out because certain people (although I'm not accusing anyone here) might like to use that information as a pretense to dole out vigilante justice there, which wouldn't be right. A concealed firearm probably would have been taken from me (and maybe even used against me) in these circumstances, so despite the fact I'd agree they're good for home defense it would have probably been bad to have one. I'm most of the way back to normal. Anyway, enough of that... I'm PADI certified, but it's been a while since I've used it. I'm not sure if I'd be down for underwater UE without some easier practice beforehand but let me know what you're up to if anything, sounds interesting. And I think every explorer in St. Louis wants to get into a cave. Do a few searches and you'll find the threads on that subject. I haven't found any entrances yet, but then again I haven't looked too much, I'm having plenty of fun above ground for now

| | | Im new to this forum. A group of friends and I have been exploring buildings and other sites since the mid 1980's. I travel through ESL several times a month and see all kinds of buildings that are ripe for exploration - but don't like to explore alone. Anyone in the area have an interest in ESL? Thanks

Hey man, I'm still here. I don't have a grill but I can bring the charcoal and the utensils... and some food of course. I visited the Armour Plant for the first time last week, it would make a good spot.
