| | St. Louis UE'ers < on 4/5/2007 8:35 PM >
| | | This is my first post, I'm looking around here and this seems to be the type of thing I'm going to have to actually get involved in to gain any useful information that's not a bad thing, I'm just lazy... Anyhow, if anyone reading this thread sees this and wants to contact me, feel free to do so at [email protected] I'm not hesitant when it comes to exploring stuff that's away from people, but the added dimension of the city would be a little new - I'm one of those nosy cats that's always curious but not hungering for any confrontation with mentally ill/intoxicated homeless (I've seen those) or the law. The homeless don't scare me, I've talked to them enough to know that, but considering I'm not a big dude I would be putting myself at some risk to venture into abandoned buildings or otherwise alone. Peace, mos6502

| | | Are you new to St. Louis? It's definatly a great city for UE, in my opinion. As for encountering the crazy homeless or officers of the law - it kinda comes with the hobby, unfortunately. If you're smart, though, it's not as big of a deal as you'd think. I've never been caught, and hardly ever encounter bums.

| | | With the exception of about a year an a half of my life spend in the California desert in my early teens, I've been a native to this area. But I do mean area - I only started living in the actual city of St. Louis, i.e. within city limits and not out in St. Charles county a year ago. I've done this kind of thing before but it's been a while. Wouldn't mind trying it again, especially if there are other people around willing to take the risk cooperatively!

| | | St. Louis is a fantastic city for UE! Most of the locations I've been to are in the UER LDB. But there are so many locations all you have to do is drive around north city and East St. Louis and they'll appear. Even some of the north county and IL suburbs have good abandonments.
I want to be different. But I want to be different just like everybody else, because if I really were different, everybody would think I was crazy and weird. Iowa is Minnesota's bitch. There's an art to pooping. |

| | | Unfortunately I can't access the full range of locales in the database yet, I'm new (there are only 4 available to me, 3 are destroyed and 1 is the AB brewery tour . East St. Louis though? I don't know about that... my aunt got a bullet through her back window just driving through there. But that was over 10 years ago. I went through there about 10 months ago (downtown) because I happened to be lost and it seemed pretty deserted. I've read in another thread that the fact just about everyone has left E. St. Louis at this point, it's safer than it was in the 90's. Is the danger mostly my head at this point? There are a couple of things I want to check out in Hyde Park actually. I've been through there to do a college report on an abandoned school there once, about 6 years ago. From what I remember of that neighborhood, just about everything is abandoned...

I'd be willing to drive to Columbia, but only if I were A)armed with some prior research on promising sites or meeting up with someone (ideas?); I don't have the time to burn out that far unless I know it's going to be good... But at the moment, I've got more to mess with around home, in fact I've got more pictures to post soon. Just driving around finding stuff... there's a ton of places in north St. Louis that I haven't even scouted out yet, stuff that I drive past every day on the drive to work.

I'd love to do a meet up sometime, perhaps this summer? and I know I'm going to be in st. louis with friends(UE types) this summer as well, perhaps we can get something going. There are a few things Columbia that are UE essentials...(the MU steam tunnels system/many rooftops)....then there are a couple unique things like a lift-bridge and stuff, that we know pretty well.

Amazing stuff, I really want to hit Lemp caves, but I can't find the way in.

All of this sounds cool. I can't say when I'd be able to make it out to Columbia, especially this month (I've got a lot going on non-UE related), but I'd like to take you up on your offer. As for meeting up in St. Louis, let me know when you'll be in town, and we can get a plan together.

I'm game if you want to hit me up. Like I said above, this month may not be the best time, but I'm around, send me a PM or an email anytime. Just stay in touch. As for the Lemp Caves... that's basically the holy grail of STL, I don't personally know a way in but you can always go read "The Lost Caves of St. Louis" by Hubert and Charlotte Rother for some tips. The brewery on Lemp near Gravois might have some kind of access, I don't know, but it's flooded.
