| | | | Now I understand... < on 4/2/2007 7:15 PM >
| | | ... why the flour mill is a topic of so much enthusiasm. I figured out where it was the other day, figured out how to get in last night. (which took entirely longer than I care to admit. The whole time we were looking for a way in, I imagined a crew of more experienced explorers looking out the windows and laughing at us.) That tangent notwithstanding, Holy Shit. We spent three hours in there, barely scratched the surface. I'm still buzzing today. It's sort of like I lost my virginity all over again.
(This painfully substandard phone picture submitted merely as proof that I've been there.)

| | | Why's the electricity still on? From what I could find about it, didn't they stop using it and decide to sell the property in 2002?

I haven't the first clue. Maybe because it's adjacent to what looks like an active business. Whatever the reason, far be it from me to question the wisdom of King County. Especially when that wisdom makes what I'm doing easier.

| | | Wow. That looks sweet. Good luck with that. Is this in the locations database? If not you might consider submitting it. I'd love to check it out, someday.

| | | It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it's in the Database; but since I'm not a full member, I've no way to verify that assumption. It appears that damn near every UE'er in the Seattle area has been there, so it must be.

| | | It took me just a few minutes of googling to find out everything there is to know about it, so I would be really surprised if it wasn't in there. But then again, maybe it's so well-known it doesn't need an entry... *shrugs* Tell me if you go again (if you want to/feel comfortable), as I'd like to check it out. Something well-known like that might make a good first site. Someone's flickr had pictures of a little emo girl on the roof, so hopefully I'd be able to handle it.

| | | What was your Google search? Can you send the links to relevant search results? And what is the name of this place? I'd like to know more about it. Thanks. =D

It's changed hands a twice. From opening to 2001, it was owned by Fisher Flouring Mills, then Pendleton Flour Mills of Pendleton OR owned for a little over two years then King County, WA bought it. There's plans in work to make it a garbage transfer station, but rumor has it nothing will happen in the near future. The power bill gets paid by the tax payers of King County, I suppose. Many things have been de-energized and condemned but there are some machinery that can be energized.

muthafremix said he thought the trains between the two buildings had moved since he was there last time... so that says to me that something is still going on there.

| | | Yeah, those train cars had definitely moved. And I believe that there's actually an active business on the property. The first recon I did, it looked to me like the (comparatively) little brick building on the SE side of the mill was doing something active. A bakery, perhaps? I don't recall. And don't currently feel like Googling it.

| | | And there's a bunch more trucks around the outside...that weren't there before...The impression I get is someone is going on there and trying to secure the building from people going in...Power is so cheap in Washington that a ton of abandoned places still have their power...whereas in the Northeast they shut that stuff off the second it closes...
