The holygrail of UE in Oregon...

Removed the names for security reasons.

******** Hospital down in *****. Closed since 2000. A huge campus, never had the time to go down, talked with a few locals I know and they don't know anything about it.

Somebody has to have made a trip there.

I love a challenge! It took about 10 minutes to find the name and location based on the clues you provided.

Better check it out soon, it's slated for re-development later this year.

Would be a good opportunity to check out the old OSH buildings down there too. Anyone down for a road-trip within the next couple days?

From what I remember only one small wing of OSH is abandoned...

Still, it seems pretty interesting:

Probably all sealed up though, due to all the recent publicity.

Never mind that though, I'm all riled up about this 'holy grail' business, and think I might take a trip down there tomorrow or maybe Monday.

If somebody wants to do some late night scouting and see what the activity is like I would give a trip down there some serious thought.

A place like this would take at least 2 full weekends to get good coverage and I'd at least like some intel before committing to a trip.

What a place! Dozens of OLD buildings, fully intact. Certainly the most interesting place I've seen in the NW.

-BUT-

This is not a place you can just stroll in to. There is an on-site security guard who does regular sweeps of the area. I spent most of my time running, or hiding. Didn't really even get a chance to pull out my camera (I did get a couple pics from the perimeter)

The guard patrols the outlying buildings in his truck, but he's probably on foot in the main area.

Also, the power seems to be on to at least part of the place, and with that comes the possibility of alarm systems. Most of the buildings appear to be sealed up pretty tight.

There is a housing development in progress on one side of the site, and also demolition of the smokestack is underway, so it's safe to assume that at least part of the place will be crawling with work crews during the week.

The main entrance road is partially blocked for construction, and it would be foolish trying to go in that way. Escape would be difficult. I scouted a couple of good back entrances, and the one with the best chances of escape would be through the baseball field and over a 10ft fence.

The rest of the property has no fence, but there are warning signs every 75 feet. It was VERY difficult walking away from this place without having fully explored it, but it just seemed too risky.

I don't especially like doing UE at night, but in this case that would appear to give the best chance of not getting caught.

Great work, wastedpdx.

Oh, I got some information on where there is an abandoned AT&T Long Lines site near Detroit Lake.

About 45 seconds, and three google searches later, I was looking at the same sat-pics.

But seriously, I'm getting a site-induced stiffy just reading about the history behind it. I'm hoping against all odds it will still be somewhat accessible when I'm in that part of the country later this year.

This is a fascinating location. Unfortunately, it looks like it is going to be sealed up tight for the remainder of it's life. The entire location is slated for re-development, and it's an extremely high-profile location, being something of a dark spot in Oregon's history. The redevelopment project was apparently featured on a PBS special thingy, too, so I can see as the security isn't going to let up any time soon. What a shame.

It's too bad you didn't find this a few years ago. There was apparently an open house in 2004.

Didn't want to put the whole article in here because of names, but if you want the whole article search for the name and "open house" at allbusiness.com

It would've at least given you an excuse to be on the property and look around. But, that means everyone else there as well. Oh well, you missed it already anyway.

Edit: took out a quote, I guess people who know the name can find the article so I don't have to post some of it

That wasn't necessary. You might as well have posted the name and address.

It would probably be better to summarize the article in your own words, and not give the link to the site.

Probably not a big deal, but it doesn't hurt to use precautions.

Can I see a show of hands as to who might be available for checking this place out during the week & during the day.
I worked for the state of oregon long enough to still have a few friends in high places. I just looked them up and a few of my closest allies are still where they need to be to call in a favor.
I'll fire off a letter to the developement company later and find out who they need to hear from to get a few doors open. It would help if I had an idea as to who aside from myself is available and or interested in mid week day stuff.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I'm just used to posting links to info by habit, as usually I'm not dealing with stuff that would be sensitive like this. Anyway, there was already enough info in this thread for me to find it, so if someone's really that determined... *shrugs*
