You're already knee deep in reliable sources by joining this forum. Is information all you're looking for? Because if you're not a new UE'er, why is every one of your locations leveled? PM me if you're serious

I usually look for obvious structures not listed here with Google or, in the case of Montreal, the city's satellite software, cross my fingers and check the place out. I'm disappointed most of the time but I do usually come across something else of interest on my way.

care to elaborate? Are you asking if the Monestary was on Staten Island? or recommending i go to staten island? i know there is probably a shit load of stuff there. I don't ever go there though so the chances of me finding a place there is slim to none. unless of course i find it on the computer.

i thought you were talking about a monastary in staten island that came down recently.

not to mention, my university has been around for at least 50 years.. its a large, well known college. Although, when I tried to find my dorm on google earth, it is just a big blur. Now, explain that one.

Live searches maps are kinda sketchy also.. Depending on if your zoomed in or not you find completly different results. I was looking at an area I used to go all the time years back. From a distance you could see the roofs of the buildings but when zoomed in just the foundations. Aparently the pictures are taken years apart.. I trust google for the most part.. Try "keyhole" I have found that to be pretty reliable...

I'm sure that the fact that we're from NJ adds to our disappointment. Due to Weird NJ we are exposed to a lot of places, which we get excited about - only to experience diappointment after traveling to find it demolished.

I can think of at least 10 places that I have heard about in the last year that I was excited to explore and later found it to be gone.

Like Squidgit said, I guess the best thing to do is just keep driving.

I found that once I saw the first building I ever explored it was sort of like everywhere I went I was constantly searching out the windows for something to explore. It's almost as though once you start exploring, you start noticing things most people who don't explore completely overlook. Drive around and listen to some music. Pay attention. You'll find something.

Because of this thread i've been noticing more and more stuff. I guess our problem was that we were relying on the internet too much when in reality we need to be looking on our own. thanks for the help. this site has really opened my eyes.

I used to have gps and when ever I would see any prospects I would plot it on the gps. I would always keep it in my truck. that way you will always remember the place and the location. I need to invest in one again

I agree, my home isn't shown on the map, the lot is still 'dirt' and only the road exists as dirt. That was 3 years ago and there are houses everywhere around me now, and paved roads as well.

Google satelite isn't kept current.

Google, they are holding back on us. I'm sure they have the capability to offer it in realtime. The question is what would you do with that kinda power?

Ask around. There's plenty of locations that people know about who are not into exploration of abandoned houses, but know where they are. From my childhood until now I have a list of locations I've either found myself or have been told about.

Local newspapers work really well for finding the demolition status of a lot of buildings, particularly if they are in small cities or towns.
