| | | yes, but nowhere near the numbers of the fiction world. most gunfights were one shot affairs, and only one was a stand up in the street affair. and it wasn't high noon. a well armed society is usually a polite one. eoghan

| | | Having read 4 awfully disgusting stories, ( I can only find 2 now online) I'd much rather the current victims would have just shot these people and have been done with it. I can see the arguments about too many morons/thugs having guns, but really when some people would need to defend themselves it would be justifiable.

| | | I see no gun ban coming, it would be to difficult to track down every American who has a gun, and take it. I am a Choctaw, Native American, there are plenty of guns on the reservation plus we as most reservations are, are sovereign nations, we have our own constitutions, laws, governments, that is beyond state and even Federal reach. If you look at the Choctaw res you will see nearly every male owns at least one firearm (pistol, rifle, shotgun), but there is NO measurable crime rate, our unemployment is nearly 0, I hate to use the term but our way of life, our thinking of the community as one family is far superior than the American way of life. really think about it, after America has collapsed from its own filth and corruption, we will still be here. And it is because of how we think of our fellow man.

Sadly, not true . . . . and recent court rulings will only bring you further into the fold. We (by we I mean the bloated Federal government) want your casino cash.

| | | I don't think so, a lot of things are changing, the Navaho nation has put a complete ban on alcohol sales within reservation borders, some reservations have began to buy land that is butted up against res borders, and then moving the res border to the edge of the property (exp. if someone in Mexico could buy 2000 acre in Texas and thin call the property part of Mexico). My tribe (Choctaw of Mississippi) as of last year now have control of Nanih Waiya handed over to us by the state of Mississippi. There is a tribe on the wast coast (cant remember location or name) but the U.S government bought land from thim for the sum of 12 blankets and a hand full of beaded necklaces well over a hundred years ago, the Department of Indian affairs got there money back, and the land was retaken by the tribe. BUT the grandest of all Native American news is the talk of the treaty that President Andrew Jackson put in writing concerning Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) that basicly states that all affairs concerning that territory would souly be controled by Native Americans for Native Americans, the Oklahoma land rush was an out right breach of that treaty. It is said if America honored every treaty ever made to us, this year, the U.S.A would lose an estimated 10 perscent of its land, Oklahoma would be the largest chunk of land you would loose almost 70,000 square miles!!

There is no "you" if your a US citizen which is what you are if your born here. The concept of land ownership in the US is an illusion that last as long as you live, sometimes. The reservations I saw down in AZ where no garden spots, and I wouldn't call some of the people there model citizens.

| | | No "you" and "us" ??? sure there is, I hear it all the time here in Houston, there is "us" and those Mexicans, "us" and those n****s, "us and those Arabs, it goes on and on, Chatah isht atsia,, I am Choctaw, I was born in the U.S. I am a U.S. citizen, BUT I am Choctaw not American. I don't expect you or most anyone to understand. Not all Native Americans agree, I respect their views, they respect mine. You have to remember not even 170 years ago "we" were at war with "you". We were given blankets infected with small pocks and cholera (biological warfare) ,"legal" killing of women and children took place, our scalps and bones were sold for money, our languages was made illegal to speak, our religions were made illegal, we were taken off our home lands, forced to live on reservations (land the Americans did not want,, until gold or some other valuable was found on it) and then moved agan. America resembled the Taliban more than a place of "freedom" "tolerance" and "liberty" in the beginning of it's history. That is how I see it as well as many of my friends and family. If there was a petition being signed that stated that all non natives were to be moved out of Oklahoma I would sign it. Not that it would ever happen, this country has a terrible track record whin it comes to obeying its own laws made now much less going back 177 years and obeying a treaty made then.

I understand to a point. My great grandmother was a full blood Cherokee Indian. One of my best friends and co-workers is Indian. It's great to be proud of your ancestors and your roots. But, if you were born in America, and/or you are a U.S. citizen, then you ARE an American. Being American isn't a DNA given nationality. Being an American means you legally belong here, work here, live here, and follow the rules that we as a country have agreed to live by. There are parts of the history of every nation that are not what they should have been. They all have some bad in their past and present. But being an American is not a dirty thing. And I'm not saying that is what you are implying. But I will say that it's high time that all Americans, native or otherwise, stop being lead to believe that being American is something to be ashamed of. It's not. Best damn country on the face of the earth and I'm proud to be part of it. Not perfect by any means, but no where else on earth that I want to call home, but right here. | | | Get over it you guys. All humans suck. No single race, creed or color is exempt from suckdom. Yes our ancestors stole this land. Yes Native Americans were massacred but Native Americans were killing each other long before the Europeans showed up. They just didn't have the technology to effectively annihilate the other tribes or they would have. The sooner we accelerate global warming and pollute our environment to the point that the Earth can no longer support human life, the better. Then the ants, roaches or bees can claim their rightful place as the dominant species.

This is sectarianism and it's an invalid argument. There are a LOT of Americans whose ancestors migrated to North America AFTER the Plains Wars. Most of my European ancestry came here post-1900. So does that make me a you, a them, or an us? Sectarianism is bad business and is senseless. It's just as silly and racist no matter which end of it you are on.

It's about 70 and muggy in DC since it rained yesterday. I took the GW Parkway North through Alexandria along the Potomac - it was pretty hazy and almost foggy in some places. This whole area is a swamp. I hate summers here. Shoulda' left the capital in Philly.
