They stick it in the drain and keep pushing it all the way along so they can find the cause of a blockage. Frozen- Would a mirror similar to what a dentist uses work for that? I have used them to peek underneath doors and they are fairly cheap if purchased at a flea market or similar vendor. I've never seen a plumber stick anything into a pipe except for the purpose an unblocking it...
