I can genuinely say, several places on my site cannot have been done successfully without concealment/camo. There's no bullshit story or hardhat that would have got me in...

You will notice that I say it's worn when I don't want to be seen. You wear regular clothes when you're going to expect to be seen or try to talk your way in. There is a big difference between the two approaches. I wouldn't wear camo when trying to fast talk my way into a place claiming to be a telephone repairman... and I wouldn't try to sneak past security patrols wearing an orange hardhat...

Everything has it's purpose and place.

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

Even if you intend not to be seen, camo pants with a black sweatshirt is still very effective, and less conspicuous than a a ninja suit. maybe a dark colored hat if you have hair as light as mine.

Jester, I asked about the ninja outfit for a very serious reason. We're living in a post 911 world. Everyone's still jumpy.
Myself, I'm in the army. There's lots of excellent buildings to UE on the base I work at. However, if I'm on rounds, and I see someone skulking around in a ninja outfit, or a cam pattern I don't recognize, I don't stop firing until the dirtbag stops twitching.
As for the civilian clothes thing being done to death, sure it has. But why do people feel the need to act like a ninja and not be seen, when waltzing through the front door in plain sight can get you everywhere you want to go? Trust me, a Telus hardhat, a buttphone, clipboard, tool belt, and a picture pass have gotten me into more places no questions asked than a uniform and a security pass at the very place I work.
Methods are different, sure. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Also, how do you avoid thermal imaging devices while ninja-ing? There's a lot more of those things out there than one may realize. I've installed dozens of them...

I don't think any explorers on this board are trying to sneak into a military base or someplace with armed guards who can shoot you. I don't think it's that much of an issue. Also, most places that people explore don't have "thermal imaging devices". The ninja suits/camo serve their purpose in certain situations. If you're dumb enough to try to sneak onto some sort of active government or military site in a ninja suit, you deserve to get shot.

"Because there's no possibility of real disaster, real risk, we're left with no chance for real salvation. Real elation. Real excitement. Joy. Discovery. Invention. Unless everything can get worse, it won't get any better." -Chuck Palahniuk

I think the whole point of camo/ninja outfit is that you are not going to a place where there is any pretext for you to be. A ninja outfit serves much the same purpose as Camo, it is simply a matter of which you are more comfortable in.

When there's absolutely no reason to be somewhere, then not being spotted is the only option, and in those cases camo or a ninja outfit could be the most useful things to wear. Quiet, and blend in well with surroundings.

You know, a nifty cost-alternative to buying a ninja suit is two black t-shirts, black track pants, and/or black shoes/boots.

Just dress up in black, completely, and take the spare T-shirt and place it halfway over your head. You're not putting it on, not conventionally. Place the top of the neck of the shirt so that it's covering your forehead, then pull the sleeves back until the neck forms a small slit for your eyes. Tie the sleeves, adjust the rest of the shirt (Which is now covering your face), and book it to your UE site. Simply as pie.

Not to mention the fact that it takes about four seconds to take off and put on normally, thus eliminating the evidence of any mask at all.

Pretty sly for a fat guy

Well, now you at least know where that came from.

I remembered seeing it one time long ago, then when this thread was started I remembered it and had to go out hunting to find it. That's the original source I take it? sweet.

I opened my door one day and was met my a herd (pack? fleet??) of ninjas standing outside of my RA's room waiting to ambush him. Turns out they were just girls from a dorm across campus that knew a lot of RAs, and were making rounds doing this for some reason. I thought they were kind of weird, but then I remembered that I was on my way out to make rounds checking to see if any of the doors on my list of potentially interesting doors had been left unlocked.

I got a picture before they disappeared swiftly and silently down the stairwell to ambush a different RA:

Well, I guess if I have to be ambushed by a pack (pride? flock?) of ninjas, I'd prefer this.

I believe the technical term is a gaggle of ninjas. At least in their case.

Ninja suits? what else do you bring, a blow gun and poison darts? maybe a katana or silenced pistol if your breakin into something big?

but seriosly you must have to going into something big to have to ware a ninja costume. someone must actually care where your going. but if your going intoan ocupied place isn't that a bit over the top? i mean if it's abandoned thats one thing but still in use means if you get caught you'll more likely be charged than going into something less important. but it's your choice and your prefferance and you probobly have tons more experiance than i do and know what works but i'm just wondering.

You gotta watch out for those college chick ninjas. I hear they can be pretty dangerous with the fluffy white ninja mittens you see in the pic.

Also, in regard to the ninja uniforms I wanted to add that often dark greys, blues and some camo patterns work better than solid black. A dark shade of grey will blend in better with a poorly-lit but not pitch black enviroment. Whereas solid black clothing tends to contrast and stick out a bit more

I agree with this ^. If I'm going for night blending, I'll stick with dark navy blue cargo for the most part. Usually a pair of good cargo pants that won't tear easily (with lots of pockets) and a thin black turtleneck with a light sweater overtop. (Keeps you warm and dry without being bulky) When it comes to headgear, a black ball cap is good for keeping dust, etc. out of your face and hair (as was mentioned before). Instead of the ninja mask, I'd just stick with a basic black balaclava, available at most army surplus / outdoors-type stores. When not in use it can be easily tucked into a pocket. For footwear, I swear by Magnum tactical boots. They're light, comfortable, durable, and you can sneak quietly in them.

Also, another factor that might bear some merit is the use of reversible clothes. If you're spotted somewhere and have to run, changing as much of your appearance as quickly as possible is a good way to keep yourself out of trouble.

(Added) As an after thought, a good pair of gloves is a good investment too. Kevlar lined gloves are durable, not too expensive, and provide some protection against sharp objects you may run across.

The reversable clothes thing completely slipped my mind. Good point.

Also, Insta-Suits can be pretty useful too. These are entire oufits that have been sewn into one piece (Shirt sewn onto pants), but have been cut all the way down the sides or middle. Along the split, it is held together by velcro or snaps. When you wear normal "civvies" under it, you can change your entire warbdrobe in a few seconds.

I don't think they sell anything like that pre-made, but if your willing to put the effort into making it, it can be something you are extremely glad to have if you ever do need it.

I had one that I wore on almost every expedition. Once I was caught by suprise by a cop doing a patrol of the area. After a brief foot chase, I was able to get out of his line of sight, pull off my hat and the suit and just act like I was walking down the street. He blew right past me without a second look.

Those who make peaceful change impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
