Tacoma Underworld

I've heard about this place- well it's really not a place, it's actually more of an area -called the Tacoma Underworld- no, it's not underground; I thought so too, at first -which is somehow connected to the BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) railway system. Famous taggers and graffiti artists, like someone called Plus, have turned this place into a tagger heaven. Apparently its quite a sight if you can check it out. Since its not actually a place though, its hard to utilize the internet to procure information about it. If anyone has any information about it, please let me know. Thanks!! ^^

Sounds like a rail yard or line somewhere, although "underworld" could be referring to the grafitti culture in the area. It sounds like your information is pretty vauge, you might want to check out some grafitti forums or just check out different rail property. Be careful though, rail cops are often overempowered and out to kick your ass, and grafitti artists aren't always smart about safety. I've had rail workers on one system tell me that "we run over a couple dozen taggers a year".

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

Wow, thanks. I know a little bit about the BNSF railway cops, I posted about them and their dogs in the 'Girl killed by Amtrak...' thread. I'll try my best to collect more information on the underworld so its not so vague, sorry 'bout that. ^^ I've read what it generally takes to become a full member, but it seems like I need to have several thousand posts before it would even be appropriate for me to consider asking. Similarly, you wouldn't ask your employer for a raise on the first day of the job. But I really want to check out the good spots on the LDB, eventually I'd like to contribute to it. This is a bit off topic for this thread, and for that I apologize, but do have any advice for me as far as becoming a full member? While I'm still fairly new to UE, and haven't actually explored any sites yet. I've been looking and studying up on a bunch of local sites, like the Pythian Temple, the Yakima Substation, the BPOE, the Stadium Tunnels, and a few abandoned houses. I've also read Ninjalicious' book, cover-to-cover and am learning useful tricks like how the BNSF security system works, how to successfully sneak past a PIR motion detector, and how to make a smokescreen flash activated by impact out of a hollowed out egg. So while I may be inexperienced and just a freakishly obsessed 15-year-old who loses sleep over why there were lights on in that abandoned house on 84th and South G. St, UE is something I am really committed to and want to become more involved in. Perhaps one day make my own zine like Ninjalicious, since I'm already headed towards journalism. Additionally, I plan on going to the Seattle meet to learn about other explorers, their adventures, and any sites they'd recommend, if any at all. So if you've got any suggestions, that'd be greatly appreciated, and again, sorry about this little off-topic spiel that has more to do with me and my ambitions than it has to do with the Tacoma Underworld, or anything else. Thanks!!

Yeah, it's a neat place, just watch out for junkies.

Look at a map that shows the BNSF line, and start looking where it crosses under the freeway (705)

What's up man, I just came across your post as I was starting some general research for an invesigative journal peice I am about to write

I started going to the Underworld when I was probalby about your age, 14-15, and was greatly influenced by the art down there. I wanted to reiterate what a previous person wrote there about looking out for junkies.

There is a reason that place is a graffitti haven, its because it is completly seclueded.... which is why its a haven for other things.

I have a ton of pictures from down there, some other cool stuff to send to you if you are interested.

Again, I really wouldn't go down there alone, also, it is trespassing just to make that clear.

please contact me for more information.

take it easy.
