Sleeping outside/What to pack

I was just wondering what everyone packs for an overnight stay while exploring.
I keep it simple when I have to rough it. I bring a hoochie/groundsheet a sleeping bag good for -40 and a single burner folding propane stove that uses those little $4 bottles of propane. Other than that I pack some toiletries a tinder box and all the other default gear gos in my rucksack. So what is your favorite gear for sleeping outside?*

*in the woods, onsite or on the street, its all fine

Our forests die, the strangle hold that we put on the earth for gold will yet increase ten thousand fold and no one knows what for.

Not really, it just depends on what your comfortable being out there with. I've been camping / hiking for about 6 years and I'm fine with a metal cup, a box of matches, water, some ramen noodles in a styrofoam cup, a knife, and one of those emergency blankets.

As a boy scout I will say that when it is cold you will be much better with a ground bad, either foam or inflatable, becuase it keeps you off of the cold ground, wich will suck the heat from your body. For sleeping over I will give list, "*" equals if outside

-Sleeping bag or blankets
-ground pad
-warm clothes
-hat
-water
-food for the morning
-tent*

That is a bare minimum of what should be needed for sleeping put wither in a ten or a structure. Remeber to take off your boots and sleep in your socks, leater boots will suck heat out of your feet. And a change of clothes is good, so then you wont be cold in clothes becauae you sweated in them overnight. And my personal opinion: Wool=best thing ever.

And happy st pattys day. sorry for spelling erros due to drunkeness

Ugly and Evil are strangely very appealing...... and damn it man.... you can't see ugly in the dark!! Tampons would attract the bears.... better idea is to throw them in a rival's area....

i pack based on the season. When i backpack i make sure i take a camelback witha small pouch/storage compartment and a full load of water, a solid sheath knife for multi purpose cutting/eating/firewood work, and a box of waterproof matches+food stuffs and a good maglight. A little rope doesnt hurt either. when i'm in structure i keep everything except the sheath knife and instead use a smaller folding blade, and i also pack a sleeping bag and groundcloth.

If i backpack longterm, its a solid external frame i've had for years, the above mentioned, several changes of socks, and a shirt or two to sleep in. usually a small stove as well and perhaps a tent depending on the season.

Just because you can survive in some situations with those minimal supplies doesn't mean it's a good idea. Also, one of those emergency blankets isn't going to do crap in the north east during winter. Good luck in 3 feet of snow and -20 degrees with a piece of tin foil and some ramen.

I've been hiking/camping for 25+ years, and while I've gone out into the woods alone with nothing but a big old knife and my big old balls for a week plus and been fine, I wouldn't go around telling people that they should do the same. Your little survival kit may have gotten you through a couple of summer nights of running away from your parents house because they told you to turn down the new Justim Timberlake album you were blasting in your house in Jersey, but it will just make your shiney poopsicle of a corpse easier to spot from the air if they don't decide to wait for it to thaw out when spring comes...

Once again, It depends what your comfortable with. If you aren't comfortable enough to do that, clearly you shouldn't. I was just making a point that you don't need to bring a ton of stuff to stay overnight outside.

Oh, by the way I thought you post was very funny. Shiny popsicle of a corpse haha. Actually come to think of it, since those blankets are shiny, they might not be a good idea for UE. Especially if theres lots of security and you are outside.

At this point I should either further berate you and call you names, or I could admit that the humor was the point, and while I certainly wouldn't advocate against attempting to camp in some situations using the gear you listed, I can't help but make some attempt to implant the image of you wrapped up in a piece of tinfoil frozen to the ground like a hot steamer pinched from the ass lips of a 150 pound doberman infested with tapeworms longer then this run on sentence.

queue the poo picture...
