What is a lion, king of the savannah, when hes at the south pole?
| | Two little trick I learned for getting HIGH < on 12/11/2003 10:00 PM >
| | | Ever have a hard time getting up to a second story open window? Got a few UE friends with you? Then your problems maybe solved. If you can find a pole piece of wood etc you can get yourself up with your friends. Now there are a few ways of doing this so bare with me and I am sure you can exsperiment and make it safe. The first way is to get your friends at one end of the pole (2x4's work as well 4x4s are better exsperiment). Get everyone to move toward the wall at a fast walk slow jog. The guy closes to the wall starts walking up it like the matrix. The second trick is to do about the same thing but have the guy walk up the wall in a arc of sorts. Have your guy on the pole start off to one side and your pick up crew will kind of swival you up to the window. This is a little safer on the hands. Its a little less stable then going straight up. Like I said exsperiment. Also if the guy going up the wall crumples for some reason and has a hnad on the end of whatever pole your using he will smash his hands. If you need a better description let me know. Another nice little trick I have learned for going up and down building roof levels is as follows. Aquire some steel pipe (I got it for free) and some couplers. Now that I think of it some T junction couplers would be nice. All my pipes were threaded which was nice. I took the lengths up to the roof and screwed them together making one long sturdy and hevey pole. Once exstended I put it at a angle finding a groove that would keep the pole from moving and a sand bag at the bottom to keep it from moving. (note that a friend holding the pole would work best) Then I jusdt climbed up the pole and got to the edge of the other roof and pulled myself up. There are easier ways of doing things but the way I got up to the first roof required some hanging upside down accross some pipe systems and it was also well lighted when the next section of roofing started. Hence the pipe idea.

| | | I haven't seen the matrix so a little better description would help, but I think I got the just of it and sounds like it would work fairly well (and then you would leave them outside? until you unlock a door I assume?)

| | | Not too sure myself what you're trying to describe here, although it sounds useful. Perhaps you could provide clarification? Or an mspaint image or the like?

| | | OK let me see if i can exsplain this better. Since I cant post apick ill have you draw it. Ok draw a line straight across the bottom of the paper. Now bisect the paper with another line from top to bottom that stops when it touches your first line. You should have a upide down T on your paper. Now draw a 45 degree angle line inbetween the base and the wall you just drew. Dont have the line touch eather wall though. Now draw one stick figure at the top of the line feet planted on the wall. Draw two or three people at the bottom of the line. That should help you conceptualize what I am talking about.

| | | IMO: Picture it was this. Have the 2x4 into your stomach area, using your 2 feet to climb the wall. Your friend will keep movign the base of the pole towards the wall to increase your height.

| | | I still can't see it, how does the person climbing make contact with the 2x4? are they holding it? hanging from it? sitting on it? laying on it? standing on it?

| | | most people grab on the very end pushing off the wall with there feet and pushing up and off the post with there hands. How you hold it takes some practice. If your feet slip you can hurt your hands badly. IF you can grab around the pole, (IE it is a metal pole etc) and hang on that is best. Usually I have it run right under my armpit with both arms clasped around it hands holding the end.

| | | I see, so it's kind of like pole vaulting, but instead of flying through the air, you run up a wall, and the contact point (the other end with your friends) moves towards the wall. Altough, that seems like you might be moving too fast and be too unstable to successfully get in a window without falling and or hurting yourself... | | | its not to diffiult to pull off actually. You dont have to move fast the group on the ground controls your speed. Once you get up there you kick one leg through the window and one out. Your friends push you till your sitting up on the ledge. Like your stradling a horse. Takes a few tries but works. If I ever get picks when I get home I'll show you.

| | | Except with more people at the bottom. They push the climber against the wall so there's enough friction between it and his feet to be able to walk up. Yay for MS paint
