| | | I'm In Trouble Now... < on 2/28/2007 6:33 PM >
| | | Newbie here....and before I dive in and read the back-stuff, I just wanted to say hi, looking forward to getting to know you guys better, sharing some of my own tales, and getting immersed. Also...for the official record, I can't get over the serendipity here. I got soooo many spankings for doing exactly this sort of thing as a kid. If it was lone, abandoned, creepy or just cool, I was off in it. I've been escorted home many times by local authorities and endured scores of scoldings, restrictions, spankings, and fussings for nosing around exploring places more times than I can count. Drain tunnels, newly built, barely stocked morgues, abandoned hospitals, schools, prisons, churches, graveyards, older mansions around town, caves...I even *ventured* inside an old lady neighbor's closed garage and explored all her 50s style evening gowns...and wore one home (I was 8!)...constantly compelled to explore anything and everything that struck me as historic, old, ancient, with intriging history, even if it was folklore. And now...look. Websites devoted to it. Scores of explorers networked together to share stories, new scouts, photos and more. I'm of a mind to send the links to my parents and go HAH! How ya like that? It wasn't just me! There's other crazy people out there too! Woohoo. (This is all I need....encouragement!) Okay...off to read. I got coffee.
PS: I'm in north Louisiana - and there are tons of exciting locations all around here that I've both explored previously or aim to eventually. Hopefully I can help supply more goodies for this area of the state. We have fun too up here - it's not all about New Orleans ya know! ;-p [last edit 2/28/2007 6:34 PM by TinaG - edited 1 times]

| | | Welcome to UER!!!! Louisiana has great abandonments, and I've always wondered why there weren't more active explorers there. Get out there and get us some photos!
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

| | | PS Thanks! I was just coming back to add in a question - not sure if it qualifies...but, I'm about to be OW certified - (OW = Open Water) - with more environments to check out. So would underwater exploring count? There are a few cool lakes here, and particularly one in northern Az I'm dying to explore for its aquaducts (Lake Powell), a gorgeous lake I've heard rumored has the underwater caverns leading to Bottomless Lakes New Mexico, but who knows for sure. Our lakes aren't so much "urban" as they are "rural" but if I happened upon something unique or compelling to explore, I know sure as I type these words I'll be all over it...so would that count for here? Just checking.

| | | We have talked about that before. Scuba counts as exploring for sure. Don't be restricted by others beliefs. Go out and show us all what you've got. By the by, if they are connected to New Mexico's Bottomless Lakes, I'll scuba in myself from here, and meet ya halfway!

| | | +1 on the exploring in the water. There are tons of things underwater you can get to.

| And most of those things lots of us can't access, so make sure you take PLENTY of pics to document your underwater UE'ing. BTW: Welcome, stay safe, and have fun.

| | | Welcome Tina! You sound a lot like me; I've been doing this stuff since I was a kid and was amazed to see how its grown over the years. Too bad your so far off from MA; we have the Quabbin Resevoir here which would make AMAZING exploring. It filled four or more towns to make the resevoir and many of the towns remains are still underwater. There is a great video that the State Police Dive Team made that you can get from the WGBH website.
