Seattle meet?

Spring is approaching and I don't see any meets scheduled for explorers in the Seattle area. If I were to schedule a meet or perhaps it would be better for someone with more experience to schedule one where would we go, what dates would be best and, who would show up?

I'd encourage this event and say that I'll be there. It'll give me a good reason to visit my relatives at the same time.

I've notes places in the outlying areas besides Seattle, if we run out of places there first to do.

Just give me a month in advance to plan and I'm there. Promised!

I could probably make it up on a Friday or Saturday night with enough advance warning. A friend will be brought also so that'll be two from Oly.

I was thinking mid-april sometime.. hopefully there is enough local interest to get at least 6 or more people. The weather would be best then if someone knows a good meeting spot like a café or something that would be nice. I'm not sure what time of day would be best it would take at least an hour for most people to get to the meet spot, I'm guessing, so it couldn't be too early. I'm open for ideas!!

If I were going to UE the Seattle area, I'd start with the Pioneer Square District, and meet at the Starbucks on the corner of Yesler and 1st.

From there, we'd shoot across the street into the old alley ways and hit some of the tunnels and abandoned buildings along the rail lines.

Near Snohomish... I created a DB for it a while back.

I also found a new place near the cemetery there as well.

I did a bit of research and it looks like a good meeting spot Ryan suggested. The community transit roles past there and, since most people know where pioneer square and/or the smith tower is, it would be easy for everyone to get there. I have decided on the date of april 7th (a saturday) but I still have to check some details in my schedule. the meet time would probably be at 10:00am and we will stick around the meeting spot until 10:30am to make sure everyone has arrived thats going, since that is the day spring break begins there might be a bit of traffic. Although the traffic, if any, will be concentrated at the ferries and airports. Well, tell me what you think of my ideas I want to set a date and meeting place convenient to everyone so I want to hear your feedback! Thanks!!

Not so. It's just that most of the UE'ing population in eastern WA is transient: College students. They go to school, explore, graduate, then go someplace more "happ'nin'" My Yakima friend always tells me that Yakima's biggest export is children, not apples. Definitely true; nobody comes back.

Anyway, while at WSU, I did plenty of tunnel exploring. A couple of the Nightcrawlers and Phone Losers in eastern WA have contacted me about my tunnel map, but to my knowledge they've never actually gone down. Pity, since it's a pretty cool site, and at the time (1994-1997) you had your pick of half a dozen ways in and out (of course, we had our favorites).

---
EDIT: BTW, meant nothing against eastern WA with that. I actually loved Pullman, and wouldn't mind living there if my kind of job existed there in any quantity.

Regards,
MoleNet94

The Night Crawlers disbanded a long time ago I think. In fact, I completely forgot about their website until just now but I remember thinking it was pretty interesting 3+ years ago when I first came upon it.

Agriculture (90% of business east of the cascades) doesn't seem to lend itself to UE.

A friend and I spent a day last summer driving to a couple old Titan I silos outside of Moses Lake:

Early 2003 was the last time I heard from anybody claiming to be a part of that group, but their site claims to have been updated in 2006. No other signs of life, though. I gave details of my group's exploits at WSU to MidKnight of the Phone Losers in '03 before making them generally available, but never heard from him again. Hope he didn't have an early-morning encounter with a Spanish-speaking janitor or anything )

That's cool about the silos. Shortly after that post last year about the old sugar beet factory in Toppenish, I did a driveby with a friend, but my friend was not inclined to stop and get out So I haven't done any E. WA UE'ing since '97. I'm lame.

MoleNet94

Remember seattle is in western washington LOL. I heard there was a silo you could dive somewhere I read it online a year ago and can't remember where I read it.. The meet might be pushed back to the 14th of april due to my friends jury duty. He may still get out of it though so I will keep you informed.

My friend Leon and I will likely be able to make it up on any saturday in April. My only question is will there be any awkward climbing spots? I have a step-up bar which helps in a lot of places but I'm not a monkey like my friend...
