Maxton / Laurinburg, NC aircraft graveyard

Hello!

Living in Atlanta, I kind of feel bad that my first post to UER is in the Mid-Atlantic section, but oh well...

A couple of years ago someone told me that an aircraft salvage operation based in Charlotte, NC was being used to retire and salvage Northwest Airline's older aircraft - and this company was using the old Army Air Corp field in Laurinburg, NC (Now Maxton / Laurinburg Airport) to house the aircraft.

Well, one clear Sunday I dialed up Laurinburg airport ( KMEB ) in my GPS and headed that way. Wow - it was something else to see a whole fleet of abandoned commercial jet airliners sitting on the ramp in various states of disassembly.

Having just found this site, I figured I'd post it here for anyone in the area. My pictures are on my site below:

Enjoy!

I think your site actually has been linked to before on here. Welcome to the forum, and make sure you say hello in the South East section.

Really? That's flattering. I did some searches on Laurinburg, Maxton, and/or aircraft graveyard.. but then again, I did put those pictures up just over two years ago.

Next time, take a look around the fence perimeter. There's all sorts of crap out there, including an IL-62 and a rotting Air France 707.

Those are awesome pics. I like the 747. Too bad there aren't any B17's there!
