wichita places

havent been back in 4 years or so, but i have a few interesting places for the kansas ue to discover. also interested in finding out if some of the most interesting places are still available for exploration...

1. Kamen, Inc. - mostly abandoned meat packing/slaughterhouse. 100k plus s/f of rooms, basements, sub-rooms, closets, etc. days of fun.

2. near kamen is a quanset hut used as rinky-dink hide tanning operation. the building is in serious disrepair, and the huge train dock doors are always open to the intrepid explorer. inside, big vats of dirty, salted water full of slowly rotating cow parts, rusty meat-hook lines, and orange arc-sodium lighting partially illuminating a room covered in hair, mud, and rusty old tools .scary as hell in a jason-michael myers sort of way. the building is by a bunch of abandoned boxcars - one of them was the accounting car for santa fe circa 1940's - all kinds of cool old furniture and records. hopefully it is all still around.

all for the moment...

Just thought I'd add some.

3. Joyland. If you live in Wichita, you probably know where it is. There are human-sized holes in the fence, and other things. On the turnaround of the roller coaster, where the turn is high up, the fence has a gate w/o barbed wire you can climb. Another way is hop the shorter fence in the parking lot, and cross the little bridge into the park and hop the little gate. You can probably get in from the canal, I don't know yet.

4. Abandoned Coleman factory. Look for it on google, but beware of bums with table legs.

5. Airplane graveyard- It seems like nobody is there at night, but it is lit so be careful. It is on greenwich, between target and that bowling alley. and there is a wide gate along the white brick wall wide enough to get into. There is a small building (I think it has no windows) so just squeeze through the fence, and go back towards the far south edge of the property, and you will see some airplanes. Its fairly rural, so don't worry.

Did any of you UE the Wichita Clinic when it was under construction? It was pretty cool, I climbed in the rafters and stuff

I'd like to see that place sometime myself. That would be interesting.

Wow this thread couldn't have shown up at a better time. Just last week I was asking people up here if they knew anything exciting in Wichita... The locations look wonderful.

Anyway sometime in late summer a small group of us may come down for a visit. We'd love to meet up with a local or two, if not for exploring...at least for a bite to eat.
