Anyone ever been to St.Alma college in St.Thomas?
I saw some pictures of the place on another website. Heard it was really interesting. Me an a friend are going to go explore it in a week or two.

It really isn't worth it, the interior has been entirely gutted.

It was interesting in that you could see from one end of the building to the other through the exposed supports and studding. The basement was somewhat interesting with some wall paintings and plaques still there. But as Manitou said, it's pretty much a dull place to visit.

Now, the other buildings on the site were more interesting, but I believe they've all been torn down. UEKW got permission from the property owner a few years ago to film a video on the site, and got the keys to the kingdom (literally). The dorms, music building and church were a little more interesting to meander around in.

Alma College is currently on the top 10 most endangered buildings list according to the newsletter from Heritage Canada Winter 2006.

Lister Block is also on that list.

Not a good sign when Heritage Canada calls it "endangered"

I was there a few weeks ago, and like everyone else said, it has been completely gutted. But even with that said, the place is still pretty amazing. The shere size of the building it self should be screaming your name. It's one of "the" places to go for some really nice shots if your into photography. Day trip of course. But yeah, if your in the area check it out. I went there from Hamilton and I didnt regret it at all.

I think i'll still go check it out...huge buildings amaze me.
did you see any of the other buildings? or were they torn down.
the outdoor amphitheatre seems pretty cool too even though it may be covered in snow these days.

When I was there, the school was the only thing standing. Parts of the kitchen, but not much at all

If you're going to St. Thomas, try and check out the train station. I was there 2 weeks ago. there was a construction crew working inside and they let us in to wander around unsupervised.

It's definitely worth the trip!

It's a tragedy.
It's exactly like a greek tragedy.
We should only be Greeks.

You should stop by Toronto some time, there's a bunch of those! Just drive up Bay St.

not St. Alma
I have been though there, I used to take swimming lessons there as a little kid before it got tore up. The church/chapel and gym are gone the gym floor was quite the sight after it got wet. A very good view of st thomas from the roof. Friends used to get up into the steeple in the front.
What is more interesting to me anyhow is the outdoor theatre which is located on the east part of the property, I have been meaning to go take pictures there. Funny it was all in until 1990, as a school! I always got weird vibes from the place as a kid...

That's because it's a big, gothic, spooky looking building. It's not haunted.

Yea it is not haunted, I am pretty sure, there are some silly urban myths but nothing in local history to back it up at all. All the cedar used to build the thing is worth a fortune and the family that owns it is letting it die, so in order to use the HUGE centrally piece of land for something, retirement home or similar. It really is GUTTED though.

I've met and spoken with the owner numerous times, and he really does seem to love the building. It's a shame it's going to be near impossible to fix it now. He tried to close it up to protect it, but it was opened by vandals almost immediately afterward, so he just gave up. He couldn't afford to keep trying to seal the school.

Is the chapel really gone now? When I was there, long before the snow, it was still up. I was inside, and have pictures of it. The chapel and school were the only things standing, not counting the walk in freezer of the kitchen of course...
