OPEX bid

I think a lot of people in our area would love to see OPEX head near our area this year. So is there anyone who would want to place a bid for OPEX this year?Im willing to help them as much as possible and im sure others on here would love to help them to. Heck if i could get enough help i wouldnt mind placing the bid myself. So is there an interest in bringing OPEX to our area this year?

I’m glad to hear there is support for the idea I think it would be great to see an Opex in our area

Baltimore and it's surroundings... it's got power plants, silos and elevators, a sweet clothing factory, a ghost-town of a VA hospital, a couple of state institutions, breweries, a big freaking drain... something for everyone.

Plus, the cops all have better things to worry about than guys with cameras.

Where's the discussions about OPEX? I was thinking about it the other day... i guess it's that time of year again.

I'd be willing to set up an 'official' bid, if my fellow marylanders are up for it.

I think that Baltimore would be an amazing spot.

fatLouie's post outlines well the basic qualities of a perfect spot,

1. Something for Everyone
2. dangerous city, cops are not so worried about some photographers
3. Accessable to seemingly hundreds of explorers that seem to be on the east coast.

Although i am from philly, and have never explored Baltimore i would also help anyway i can.

Sounds great I live in VA and would support you as much as possible even making trips up there to scout stuff if the need be. The opex website is http://www.opexue.com/
Beore anyone places a bid for our area I say we get all the facts down so our bid sounds perfect. Also we should pick someone to write it who knows the area and is good with words.
Things the Bid should include are...

  • The name of the city entering the bid.
  • The nicknames of those people who are putting the bid together and hosting the OPEX and their contact details. (email).(im willing to be one of these people contact me if your placing a bid for our area)
  • Why you want to hold the event and why your city will be the best place to hold it. What does your city have to offer that others do not?
  • A one or two page proposed schedule listing exploration sites, social get togethers (meals), talks, classes etc. Preferably in order. Also note that past OPEXes have often held different events at the same time to give people a choice of what to attend.
  • A one page transport plan. How do people get to and from sites?
  • A list of proposed meeting / discussion sites. (If you are going to hold talks / discussions, where can you do it? Do you have guaranteed access? Will there be facilities for computers / overhead projectors? - Generally uni students can obtain use of meeting rooms / lecture halls for free)
  • A brief list of proposed contents of the information pack. (maps, schedule, important contacts, other relevant info)
  • A brief list of suitable accommodation for a range of budgets. While people have to organise that themselves, such a list is very handy. Web links and honest assessments of how good, clean, safe, noisy each place would be good. Some explorers will be early sleepers while others will be late sleepers so keep that in mind. If organisers can host people, they should say so. But this would not be compulsory, because no one should have to take strangers in if they don’t want to.

i got that list off the Opex webiste it has more info in the FAQ section about bidding

I'm in NoVA and would love to help out in any way I could to get a bid in Baltimore or nearby. I haven't explored much, but I could definitely work on putting together some info for some creature comforts, such as cheap hotels, transportation, etc. I do band bookings in 'real life' so I'm used to helping artists find places to stay, eat, etc. while they're on tour around here. I also used to work for a conference center so I might be of use in trying to find a place to convene, etc.

The Baltimore area would be awesome. I've never taken part in an event before (never lived close enough and bad timing in the past), but I'm willing to help out so let me know what I could do...I'd love to be a part of this.

I'm just outside of DC, by the way.

I'd support you in this bid and attend. Your whole area is ripe with goodies.

Bodymore? Bodymore, Murdaland?
You crazy dog.
There is plenty in the city to see that is going to be demo'd or is best done by big groups.

There's also plenty of places in nearby areas that people could hit up afterwards.

Ladies and Gentlemen!
You should move the substantive portion of this discussion to the Maryland UE board.
