should I get a tyvek suit and an organic vapor respirator

You're joking, right? What the hell do you plan to explore? The insides of a toxic waste container?

Fuck all that expensive gear and gadgets and crap. Get yourself a cheap headlamp, an old pair of shoes/boots, and go out and explore! Respirators are NOT practical or essential or even typically-useful equipment.

You must have missed the memo, respiraters ARE required to be a good UERer.

I drink gasoline for breakfeast and beer for dinner!
Any problem can be licked with a case of beer and a few sticks of dynamite.

Respirators aren't a bad call. Old buildings have lots o' asbestos. But then, I smoke half a pack a day and work in a building that still has asbestos pipe insulation, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Good call, this guy's ok. But for extra credit points and a chance to join the Command, what kind of beer is best for exploring?

Im not trying to be a dick, but smokers are actually at a higher risk than non smokers when it comes to inhalation of particulate... This is because of the tar in your lungs--it traps the asbestos (or silica, or *insert particulate here*) in your lungs and doesnt really let your lungs naturally purge as well as they normally could... just a thought

Meh. That tar you mentioned? Yeah, that's gonna kill me a little quicker than asbestos.

Just a little geo-nerd info...There are 14 varieties of asbestos. Only 2 have been shown to be carcinogenic. The other 12 are harmless. But there's no way to tell which kind was used in this or that insulation without somewhat expensive testing equipment. So there's only about a 15% chance you'll die from it anyway.
