| | | A quick search found this article. Its possible the porta-pots were for workers cleaning up after a train derailment there a few weeks ago. MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. -- No one was injured and there was no hazardous material spill when a CSX freight train derailed early yesterday near Marriottsville, a company spokesman said. The train traveling from Cumberland to Philadelphia derailed about 2:15 a.m., according to CSX spokesman Bob Sullivan. The train had three locomotives and 91 cars. Sullivan said 21 cars left the tracks, including a tanker carrying anhydrous ammonia that fell on its side. Sullivan said workers were determining how best to get the car back on the track. The site is on the Carroll County side of the Patapsco River, west of Marriottsville Road and off Henryton Road, according to Howard County Fire Department spokesman Bill Mould. The area is densely wooded, and Mould said four-wheel-drive vehicles were being brought in to carry emergency workers to the scene. Monday, December 18, 2006

| | | The old buildings are protected, even if the state sells it, they are required by law to keep the hospital buildings because they are on the register.

| | | Interesting. My friends and I went down to Henryton a few days ago. We hadn't been there in several months. Noticed the porta potties and also that the garage burned down, when the heck did that happen? Here's hoping it doesn't get torn down. The place seems pretty neglected these days.

| | | The buildings at Henryton are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, but I don't think that they've been added yet. unfortunately being on the register is only an honorific and affords no protection. Danvers was on the register and look what happened there. Hopefully someone will buy it who wants to reuse it, the buildings have been getting trashed but they're still structurally sound for the most part.

Henryton has been for sale a LONG time, no one wants it. Imagine installing ductwork for a modern a/c system... Those walls are all concrete and block. That alone is gonna be a huge price tag that will turn many away. Than think re-wiring the entire building, new roof, all new windows, all new doors, asbestos clean-up, replace pretty much any wood, repair the crumbling exterior finish... We are most likely already over the cost of demo and a brand new finished building. Hentryton will rot to the ground if its not burned down first.
