| | | Rarely more than 50-75 at one location over the course of a full day of shooting. Cut that down by a half if I'm shooting film. I'm usually more interested in getting good pictures than I am in "documenting" the place.

| | | Lots and lots. Anything remotely interesting gets at least several shots taken of it from different angles. I'm not a real photographer so I just go point-and-shoot crazy for documentation purposes.

It depends. You can cover a small hut with just couple of pictures, but try to do it with a multi-storey factory. Then again, a dozen shots from boring empty halls might be too much, but no amount is enough for a completely preserved and intact hundred-year-old family estate. If I'm on the run, I might just take couple of quick snapshots, but if I have all the time I need, I'll eventually fill all my memory cards. Just like bsidez said, the more you take, the more good you get. Since with a digital camera you don't have to worry about the price of the pics you take that much as when shooting film... well, better safe than sorry. You can always delete the ones you don't like.

that attitude tends to create more lazy photography - if you don't consider each shot, you'll wind up with a lot of shots of cool stuff, but the shots themselves might not be worth the RAM chip they're printed on. shooting film is a great way to wind up with quality shots - each click of that shutter costs you money. but even if you shoot digital, you can put quality ahead of quantity. allow yourself a limited number of images - say 25 - and only take that many on a given trip. you'll learn that properly composing a shot is worth the time.

| | | If i'm shooting digital(which is rare these days), usually anywhere from 25-100... Maybe less, as i have only a couple of small cards. If it's film, i could shoot anywhere from 1-4 rolls in a place. Just ask LostinPA... He saw me change film sooooo many times over my visit. Plus, if i'm carrying more than one film camera(usually one for black and white, the other for color) i could end up shooting quite a few rolls.

I'm not arguing against your comment so much as for another viewpoint. Winograd would say your nutty, and more importantly that your theory is fallacious, but I'm not at his level yet. The amount of pictures has nothing to do with quality; there is no direct correlation. You cannot ever know if you have the "perfect" composition; having more pictures only increases the probability of that one great print. Also, it is hardly lazy to take set up your composition, take 3 pictures, walk 2 feet left to another decent location, take 3, and proceed in this manner. In any case, take as many as you want to, and as many as it takes to present the location.

| | | Depends on the lighting, the place and my mood. I sometimes take a few, and sometimes take hundreds. I have 4 gigs worth of cards, so either way I can do what feels right.
