Spell Checking?

Hey Av, would it be possible/simple to add a spell checking feature to the forum? I think this has been mentioned before, and I know I could copy my posts into Word but I'm just too darn lazy (as a lot of other people on here obviously are as well) For some reason I'm dyslexic when I read over my posts in the preview and it seems like 80% of the time when I have a spelling error or typo I don't notice it until I see the post a couple more times.

Maybe you could also implement something that returns an error if you try to submit a post with too much leetspeak or lack of punctuation ;) Sort of like an automatic Crossfire/Ninjalicious.

nah, a server-side spellchecking solution costs $1000+. unless you want to donate that amount, we're gonna have to live without it.

i never use spellcheck anyway. here's a solution: learn how to spell!

There are plugins for Internet Explorer and other browsers that you can use. Try searching at www.download.com .

EDIT: Just found one for IE: http://download.com.com/3000-2378-10220980.html?tag=lst-0-12

notice how they all require word or whatever?

i am not going to load microsoft word onto my webserver, and invoke it for the sole purpose of spell checking. it's a memory hog and would slow stuff down a lot.

Av said it best: learn how to spell!

Or if you slip up there is always the modify button, remember that? I thought that's what it was there for.

Duh ...I tried but I couldn't find the buttons to refresh the paper screen.

It is amazing how many people don't read.

(Feel free to delete this completely off topic, utterly useless post)

edit - HA! I thought of something relevant to add to my post!

You can always craft a reply in the forum editor, select and cut your text, paste it into a word processor (i.e. Word), spell check, and then cut and re-paste the checked text back into the forum text editor.

Not really, considering that for the last fifty or so years there have been other things in other media to keep everyone from doing anything requiring the use of actual thought.

You're a genius Detroit, though I'm sure that will still take too long for some people.
