| | | I'm going to pick up a navigation system for my car, and am currently considering the Mio C310X. Has anyone used this unit, or do you have any other suggestions for a better model? No more driving around in circles because I can't remember exactly where a location is.

| | | I use the microsoft GPS, streets and trips with my laptop. It's much cheaper and better than a GPS unit if you have a laptop.

| | | I recommend Garmin. Get the C330 or something around that for a car mount. I have the Venture Cx as we already owned a 60Cx. I've used the C320, which is a nice car model. I highly recommend Garmin to Magellan and other makers.

| | | I bought the TomTom GO 910 earlier this year, and it's quite disappointing. Before I took it to North Carolina with me in September, I updated the maps and whatnot on there. It got me there in one piece, but it had trouble telling me where to go if I got off the main road / main highway in Forest City / Rutherfordton ("Rufferton"). I'm not sure if it was because I was in a semi-rural area, or because I lost signal, or what. In any case I didn't like it. Don't get my wrong, though - this model of the TomTom has some neat features - like being able to make phone calls with the unit, issue voice commands with the microphone that's included, put MP3s on the included harddrive - but these are all features I'd likely never use. The voice quality, though, is /very/ nice. There are voices avalible that are, for all intents and purposes, real (basic words are read by actors and recorded) - and there are computer-generated voices. The actor's voices cannot read out street names, but the computer-generated ones can. Both sound equally great. If you do a LOT of travelling (my entire family does, so buying this unit made sense) - I'd recommend either this model (the 910) or a lesser model (the 710 or 510). The 910 will run you about $700, and the 510 will run you about $600. The main difference is internal harddrive capacity. Peace

| | | I highly recommend an atlas and/or city map. I use them everyday, being that I'm a truck driver. They are very reliable compared to the electronic units mentioned, including mapquest, etc. It's very user-friendly and only requires a pen and paper.

| | | my friend disco (forgot her username on here) came over two months ago, and when she rented a car she also rented a talking GPS. it amused me to no end. and i have been looking into them. i want the talking kind though. my blackberry has googlemaps, so i don't need anything extra for that functionality. it would be great to have a voice guiding me along instead of trying to look at maps while driving. considering how much i must spend on gas just driving around lost or looking for stuff, i think a gos would pay for itself. if anyone has recommendations for the talking kind, please share. since prices go down right after Xmas season, i am crossing my fingers that one that talks will be in the $200-400 range soon.

There are some in the $200-400 range.. http://www.amazon....UTF8&s=electronics http://www.amazon....UTF8&s=electronics All you need for that second one is to buy a bigger SD card and you'd be set. That's the one we got for my boyfriends dad.

| | | personally i would get a GPS thing for a laptop, a motorola Q with internet, and google earth. Go anywhere in the world and see streets, not to mention be able to find locations that youve marked with GE easier. cars with voice nav are fun, but it is really kinda gimmicky unless you really dont know where you are or you are just terrible with directions.

| | | I ended up getting the Mio C310x for Christmas, and I love it. Much better than the other brands I've tried. I do have my laptop along quite often, but I like having the GPS right on my dashboard next to my steering wheel. I can quickly glance at where I'm going instead of squinting at a large map at 1920x1200 resolution. I did end up turning off the voice though. That got old really fast.

| | | I have a Verizon phone where you can use the GPS on your phone. Got us to Norwich and back with no problems. It talks to you too. The only thing you need to invest in is a car charger. If your really into a unit Garmin and Magellen are the best brands in my opinion.

| | | I have a garmin and its great. It does have voice and I paid close to $400.00 for it. For a couple hundred more you can get the model that actually tells you the street names instead of just showing them on the screen; mine simply says (take a right in 1 mile, etc). They are also good at updating their maps which you can download. My friend has GPS on her nextel phone and it worked pretty well also. Just make sure its securely mounted with either the windsheild mount or a beanbag mount. Mine went flying when I took a corner and then tried to direct me to go back home. Maybe it thought I had too much to drink.

| | | My buddy has an Alpine Blackbird, works damn nice.. he had a magellan at one point but it kept wiggin out, same as the magellan my mom got.. people say to get garmin or magellan most of the times because they are big companies and you can easily get maps for them.. BUT alot of the GPS systems share the maps.. so you can use maps ment for the garmins in alot of the others.. just look into it before you start buying shit..
