|  | | | So, a few nights ago, at 2am in the morning, me, and a friend were out riding through Trafford Park. Well, actually we were out dumpster diving, hoping to find a PC or two, thrown out by local technology companies (we found one, a Dell Dimension)..
We went past the public weighbridge, and I happened to note a demolition crew had set up, and realised... It was abandoned...
While this was a shame, as it had been a fixture in Trafford Park for as long as I can remember, it was also an opportunity to have a "mooch around" as my friend puts it.
For those of you who don't know what a weighbridge is, its a huge pair of scales for weighing vehicles, trucks mainly. A lot of companies have their own weighbridges, the public one was for the companies who don't. They weigh the truck before and after its delivered its goods, so they can calculate what mass of goods have been delivered.
I didn't have a camera that night, but my friend did, a 2Mpix Kodak. I returned later on that week with my camera during the day, on a sunday when the demo crew wasn't around. Hence the mix of day and night photographs.
1. A picture of the weighbridge building, from the corner of the courtyard. The only place I could get the entire building in one shot. Corrected for perspective in photoshop.
2. The ladder leading up to the overhead crane, the same ladder that I climbed the previous visit.
3. Me, in the process of climbing a ladder up to an overhead crane. Normally, I am roped in for climbing things like this, but since this was an unexpected exploration, I had to make do with the equipment that was still in my saddlebags, ie, a headtorch, and kevlar gloves.
There wasn't a lot else to see, the original equipment had been removed either by scrappers or the demo crew already. The building was just one giant shell, with a small office which we were unable to access.
