|  | | | My then-girlfriend-now-wife used to live in Carp, and I drove by this place dozens of times before the fire. I swung by this place with my brother in law last weekend.
This looked like a suitable entrance at first, until we went around back.
Through a hole in the wall....
No more fire extinguisher. :(
The blades on these fans were warped quite badly... must have been a decent fire.
This might be worth playing with in Photoshop if it were not so grainy...
Closed for business.

Upstairs... this is a section of roof that has caved in. I really don't know if this was from the fire or the next couple of winters' worth of snow leaning on the weak roof.

Man I didn't take anything, but for anyone with weak morals there was a ton of stuff to be had.... I was particularly tempted by the boxes of cat-5 but I remained strong. :)
We came across this old saddle and set it on top of some old tables...
Ice, Ex, Coors Lite, Blue... there were none of these to be found. But that's ok because any real Canadian knows it's all about the Moosehead.
Apparently, according to my brother in law, the entire half-wall under the mural (seen in pics from other UEs) used to be bricked and covered in $1 bills like this. They attached them with some sort of really good glue that kept the locals from taking the money. I left it near the front door, where the light was best for photographing it.
On our way out we felt like some nacks...
On the other side it says "closed".
I didn't bother getting fancy or Photoshopping any of these, frankly because there wasn't a lot to work with, but here are a couple that came out ok...

| | | | i have very, very fond memories of driving around one day with some friends while i should have been at school and finding this place. sadly, i didn't have a camera with me and we never made it back...did you wander around the land in the back? there are (very few) remains of what must have been a patio/trailer area, now completely exposed to the elements, and at the time there were shards of newspaper from the late sixties and melted lp's lying around some wooden kitchen chairs. i think my friend still has an unlabeled eight-track he found in an abandoned car in the parking lot...

How did you get upstairs? I just snapped some pix by sticking my arm up. Also, the tripod made photographing the mural and the darker areas easy. I never stuck around long enough to find the $1 bricks. Awesome find.
If you wanna get 2gether for some exploring, I really want to pay another visit to the dive apartments on St. Laurent. Still haven't explored the top floor.

I tried to line up a good shot of the mural but I must have nudged my tripod or something because it was unsalvageable when I looked at it afterwards.
As for getting together, I'll all for it... and I'll check out those apartments but only if you give me a tour of that Hospital in Smiths Falls.

P.S. abacab - if you're interested I added another place in Carp... none too exciting, but the old car with the trees growing through it is worth a look at least. Check the DB.

I have to go look some more before I can really say much about it, but it's a sizeable building roughly similar in size to the hospital. Two screws are all that's keeping me out.
