Toronto Urban Climbers/Adventurers in zee Globe

Saw this in the Globe and Mail today on the GO train and it made for an interesting read, urban climbing for the win (figured I'd post it in Ontario since it's like local news, I think it makes sense at least). http://www.theglob...PELLERS18/TPStory/

Rappelling is a natural follow-on to some of their other unconventional activities -- both are devotees of the urban adventure movement, which emphasizes the exploration of little-known city spaces, many of them forbidden. The couple have explored abandoned buildings, storm sewers and Toronto Transit Commission tunnels (which they enter by slipping off the end of the passenger platform).

Thanks guys, now everyone's going to know how to access TTC tunnels

I hate to inject reality into such a biting insult, but the G&M is a traditionally left-wing newspaper. They were strong supporters of Chretien, and continued the trend of supporting Martin up unti the Sponsorship Scandal, when they withdrew support for the Liberal Party. They are however, still an unabashedly (small-l) liberal media outlet.

Now, stepping off my soapbox of defending the G&M, that's an awesome photograph, kudos to the photographer. Also, the TTC information was stupid to include

No...your right...I confused the G&M with the National Post...damm you Canadian Newspapers

I shall change my joke to:

"Oh, its the Globe & Mail...only people who have a photo of Harper next to their photo of Jesus on the wall and throw darts at them read THAT paper"

But anyways yeah, that IS a cool photo.

I havent read the article, but merely stating that you can step off the platform and explore the tunnels, is really not that much information. Granted they shouldn't have said it. The editor deserves to be kicked in the pants.

I have read the article, and it does just say that, doesn't even say which platform...(if we're talking lower bay)

If they had written "explorers who lift manhole covers and descend into the darkness below" - some folks would be complaining that now everyone is going know how to get into drains.

It actuallyl makes me wonder just exactly how SAFE those people are being...

But you forget one thing...

People are idiots.

You have no clue how many climbers will end up with broken heels because they thought that climbing 3 stories over cement would be fun.
