Ha, I was wondering because one trip was more than enough for me.

Ok..... so someone please clue me in..... where is the train station? I've lived in the area for most of my life and I've never even heard of it. All I've really had good success with has been abandoned homes, but then again, I have not had the chance to hook up with anyone to tackle bigger places. There is a huge 3 story A-frame that is unfinished.... made with steel beams and chock full of stuff on hwy 64 near Jacksonboro that could be interesting.... I've never gone in it... was never prepared to, but its been empty since forever. I think that there may be an abandoned factory off of 17... I can't remember exactly where, but I've driven by it many times... whenever I get back on the road, I'm going to head out that way. I have waaaaaaaaaay too much time on my hands!

The train station is past the intersection of 17 and 64 about a mile or two. You'll be able to see it on the right when the highway goes up over the railroad tracks.

I saw the A-frame when I went up to Walterboro on a scouting mission. When I went up to the house there were fresh car tracks, in the very tall grass, and the place was packed full of stuff. I didn't go in because it was getting too dark.

I think I know where you are talking about. There weren't any fresh car tracks last time I was out there, but then again, its been awhile. The A-frame has fascinated me since I was a little kid. I go out to that area every now and then because there are several historical sites nearby, as well as some interesting graveyards.... maybe when I get back on the road, we can meet up and check out some of this stuff......

There area a few side roads that go to boat ramps that have some old abandoned houses in the area.

There's a graveyard either right across the street or just down from the A-frame that has some gravestones where the trees have grown around them. I thought I had a pic, but I guess not.

Yeah.... I have plenty of pics from there and from the Burnt Church right down the road..... Pon Pons....I think..... There is a huge magnolia tree with a tombstone sticking out of it in the graveyard across from the A-frame. Do any of you know anything about the A-frame? Its been like that forever.... I remember being about 10 years old and seeing it.....and I'm almost 30 now.... Unfortunately, I only have night shots of it, though.
Here is the stone in the tree.....

Here is a crappy one of the A-Frame....

and the Burnt Church.....( I love Jacksonboro )

And I don't know if I can put a photobucket link on here or not, so if its prohibited, please let me know.... but here is a link to a few of the rural sites I've been to around here.... the only one I have had any trouble at is the Cane Gully house. I got caught by a Berkeley Co-op worker.... and I played dumb, like I didn't know I was trespassing, and he just told me not to do it again! http://s64.photobu...de/Abandoned%20SC/

Also the Moncks Corner one has some interesting locations in it....
http://s64.photobu...e/Moncks%20Corner/

Again.... please tell me if I should remove those links.....

I know this thread is just about DOA... but I just wanted to come on here and say that I am now back on the road, so now I can go explorin' again. If anyone is interested in getting together sometime to trade sites, let me know.

well since someone else brought this thread back to life I might as well post.
I moved down here (outside of Charleston) a lil over a year ago. I haven't had much time to get into UE down here, wandered around some places in Holly Hill and thats about it. Ive been wanting to get out to Columbia but I havent made it.
I didnt think there were so many people down here into UE. When I had looked on here when I first moved down there wasn't much. I figured Id say hi and re introduce myself since I haven't really been on uer much in a LONG time.

I've been to most of the places around Charleston if you need someone to point the way. I'm about to go on a huge road trip for an indefinite amount of time after I get married in September, so catch me before then. ;p

You guys should have fun there are tons of places within a days drive of Charleston, and lots of great people.

Newbie here, but I was wondering if anyone had an update on that A-frame. I've passed that thing so many times and I was planning on going there soon before I saw this thread. Does anyone have an update, since someone mentioned seeing tracks and stuff there? It really seems unlikely to me that after twenty-ish years that someone would start working on it now.

I haven't been by it in awhile..... Its one of those places where its kind of hard to tell if someone has used it lately/ visited it lately. And, unfortuneately, I live too far away from it to scout it out regularly to see if there has been any activity. That A-frame is just chock full of stuff.... The fact that it is in full view of the road, and that it lookd like the only access to the inside of it is from the 2nd floor, has been what has stopped me from exploring it further. When were you thinking of checking it out? That place has fascinated me for years.....

I'll scout it out at least. That cemetary that isn't far off is also gorgeous and I haven't been there in a long time, so that alone will be worth the trip. I'll probably head there sometime this week.

The barracks, I think was a hospital at some time, or so I have been told. I personally haven't been to holly hill yet.... I think.
