New to UER and To South Carolina

Hi Everyone...

I'm new to UER, but not to UE. I've been doing this since I was a teenager in Colorado exploring old mines. I've just moved into the Charleston area and was poking around the web when I came across this site. I have to say I didn't think that so many other people were into this kind of thing.

I was wondering if anybody had some cool places to check out. I've been into the power station at the Navel Base and some of the old houses there. I've been out to Fort Moultrie, well the satellite forts I don't pay admission. I went to Columbia to check out the Babcock, but there were construction crews there, and I haven't had the time to go back, though I might this weekend. I did find a school in Holly Hill that's accessible and another in Bowman that's not, at least not into anywhere cool.

If anybody has suggestions let me know, or if you want info on the places I've listed.

I wander through forgotten halls, staring through the eyes of the dead.

There is a good bit strung out around the state. Most of the northern part of the state is well explored. Not so much on the coast, at least not as much as there should be. Google earth and other resources are opening up options, and it might be useful for you to try that resource.

As for Charleston, Charleston hasn't been completely cracked yet. Several of us either go to Charleston, or some live there.

Mark's a good egg, you can count on him. That Scaggs guy is super shady, though. Watch out for that one.

I hadn't thought about using Earth, that will come in handy locating a train station I've heard about.

I didn't see the hospital last time I was there, but I spent most the day in the power house. I'll check it out this weekend.

Thank you for the welcome and the ideas.

I've been through most of the stuff in the Charleston area, but the one thing I keep hearing about and need to check out are the old WWII era tunnels on Sullivan's Island.

The train station you might be talking about might be the one in Ace Basin. Be careful the owner and several residents are watching the property. I think Andrea(maybe someone else) got ran off with me one day. Its about 45 minutes max south of Charleston.

Not to mention lots of roads south on 17 have old houses etc. Keep a eyes out.

I know they are/were there. Several of my guys in my unit as kids went through them although they are apparently partially filled with water. Has anyone done a search for info on them? I want to say most have them been sealed off.

Everyone who grew up here says they remember going into them as kids, but apparently they've been closed off... how well, thats the question.

Where is that hospital, I was all over the base today, I was in the pool, the church and went back into the power house, but I didn't see anything that looked like a hospital!?

The hospital is this big, long low sprawling white building off on the side of the base that people still live on. It hasn't been used as a hospital since the sixties when they built the new hospital on rivers ave. so theres no medical equipment inside, just a ton of old papers. And a courtroom.

The courtroom is pretty cool... Do you know if the elevator to the second floor has been removed from the building? I'm headed home for Thanksgiving this weekend and would love to see it.

I'm a saucy little asshole

Babcock just wrapped the shooting of the Kevin Bacon masterpiece known as Death Sentence and when we went by last week, they had erected a new 12 foot chain link fence and they had 24hr hired security working the building.

Of course, at Sueplex, just a month or so earlier, we successfully walked 32 people into Babcock without incident and then took group shots on the front steps. Go figure.

Give it a month or so and see if it cools down.

I live in Summerville and have been to the train station plenty of times without a hitch. I find it's better to go to these places on a Sunday when most people are busy with family or whatever.

I went out to the train station last week and had no problems while I was there, I got some cool pics, but it was a little more run down than I had hoped.

I got yelled to get "off them there property before I call the police" after 5 times with no issues. Go figure. Maybe Google earth will produce a few more places like that.
