Ghost-towns or almost-ghost-towns in the Great Lakes/Midwest

Hey guys,

Does anyone know of any ghost towns or towns where the population has gone down like 80% in the last century, located in the Midwest or 'Greater Lakes' area of the United States?

I know there's a few in my state, Minnesota. Most of them are either severely dwindled in population or old ruins of the towns are on private property.

Some of the ghost towns I can think of are:
- Barrows, MN (Crow Wing county)
- Nelson, MN (Douglas county)

North and South Dakota are rife with ghost towns.

I was just on http://www.ghostsofnorthdakota.com. My folks are actually thinking about moving to North Dakota, I'm trying to talk them into *taking a drive* that way sometime this next coming year. If they do decide to go look at houses in North Dakota, I'm going to try to find out where every single ghost town on the way is.

That site does a pretty decent job of finding them, but there are a lot more places.

I will second a visit to Idlewild. Marlborough is really neat too and not far from Idlewild.

I will post some Idlewild pics after I scan them in.

Mandan is really not all that worth visiting. As the site says, the 4 houses in town are all occupied by hunters and the like in Summer.

Man, Barrows used to be interesting until a fire started by some kids destroyed the old schoolhouse there. I had explored it with some friends many years ago, and although it was being used to store a lot of junk, it had some neat aspects to it. There were several pianos in it too, including a player piano. All burned.

Not sure if this qualifies as a ghost town, but I used to live near the town of Ai (pronounced "A eye"). While it still has aa number of residents, they are now down to only one business since the elementary school moved.

They just mentioned a place on the news tonight-Truman, MN. Sounded interesting. Except that a 17 year old kid is buying up all the abandoned stores and re-opening them...

Podunk, Michigan. Seriously, that's the name of the place. There's one currently lived-in house.

Also, www.ghosttowns.com has a pretty complete listing, state by state.
