Has anyone been there in a while? I was there maybe 6-7 months ago, I was wondering if much has changed since then... I'd like to see it again before it's gone.

Was there last week.

EVERYTHING has changed. Heavy construction on all fronts. Not much left to see for anyone that's been there before.

That depends largely on your definition of "still standing". Many of the interior walls have been demolished, half the connectors between the buildings, some of the porches, and the entire cafeteria area is gone. There is DEFINITELY construction going on....it's a zoo up there. I am reasonably certain that anything that hasn't been completely gutted has been abated and cleaned out.

Again, I didn't see anything up there which made me think it would be worth the risk of going there for someone who has been before. It's a construction site with a couple of empty shells of formerly very interesting buildings on it.

RIP Metro....it's time to find new stuff to explore...

what a shame, was there as recently as last summer, around the middle of july, active construction, yes, but a lot to see, things change fast, they already had the roads in at that time, so I guess its not surprising that they would start gutting all the buildings-

That's not really metro per se...

When were you there? I was up there shooting myself last weekend.

what is that then? nan and i went there saturday and that was all that was left. i had never been to metro, too busy screwing around a my favorite spot further south all year. nicksan told me there might be another building way the hell further down from where we were, but there was a lot of beer in me last night and little sleep, so i retained little of that information.

enlighten me.

Well Gaebler is... not far away from metro, but not on the same campus. So if you didn't see any other buildings, that would make perfect sense

Not saying that anyone is wrong since i myself haven't been in forever and I have no idea what's left, just saying.

Also if there is literally nothing left of Metro, then I guess Avalon decided to go in a different direction with their project, considering The Medical Building and CTG were to be renovated (mostly)

and that just sucks!

You should have gotten in touch with me this weekend...I am about 5 minutes away from there and could have told you that you were in the wrong place. As Keti said, that's Gaebler, which is right by metro but not within direct site of it.

They have indeed destroyed much of Metro, but at the very least you would have seen some of this if you had been there...

...there's not really a lot to see there anymore, but the shells of the buildings they are saving are still there.

I haven't been over there in a while because...well because I don't really have any reason to go...but I met up with some people at Gaebler who had been over at metro. They seemed more confused by the layout than they should have been, so there was probably a lot of demo done, but I believe all the CTG buildings they are saving are still there. That would be a HUGE change of direction to knock those down...when I was on site during the constuction they were going to a lot of trouble to carefully strip those buildings.

When fdx and I were there we saw no buildings. We walked up to the water tower and it seems like if there were buildings there we should have seen them. We saw nothing.

The water tower is not even half way to metro. Check the satellite if you don't believe me. Sorry!

EDIT: Rest assured, though, you didn't miss much. There's not a lot left to see at Metro anymore...it's just shells and foundations of what was there along with new construction.

i live with this chik who spent from age 9 to 18 at the gaebler, she has some really crazy stories about that place. when i showed her fallout-ue.com (nice plug huh...) the pictures she nearly fainted and said how many bad memories it brought back to her, but at the same time she said she had some really good ones to.

If she wants to, I'm sure many here would be interested in hearing her stories. There was a patient account that someone told me about somewhere online that I have been trying to find but haven't spotted yet. Always interesting to hear from people who were actually treated at these places.

Gaebler didn't strike me as a pleasant place to live at all. Lots of room to store people, but didn't really seem like there was a lot of room to have fun. The seclusion rooms there give me the heebie jeebies.

I guess it's possible that there is something left. I didn't realize how far the water tower is from the square. We couldn't see any buildings though and there were leaves to block the view.

it was more of an afterthought when we went. we are actually across the street, at that....school. you know.

and there was a tiny bit of light left so nan wanted to show me what it was like. we pulled up and asked the cops there if it was ok to walk around the campus and look, since i had never seen it. they told us they were looking for scrappers there (and we had seen two odd guys at the campus across the street walking near another abandoned building...) and that we could not drive around, but could walk on campus. they were nice about it, i may try that tactic in the future if i don't really plan on going in.

we did not make an entire trip to metro for nothing, we really went to the other campus and then just popped over to metro for shits and giggles.

and yes, that name gaebler, that is what nick told me about. i will be back up in about three weeks anyway though. just gotta sort myself out down in ny a bit and get this new yashica camera tested out.

Don't bother with the Gaebler or Metro... there's really not much to see in either.
