Abandoned institution near Brookfield WI?

I've heard mention of an abandoned institution/asylum/whatever in or around Brookfield, WI just west of Milwaukee possibly off of Watertown Plank Rd. I don't know exactly where it is or conditions. If you know anything about it, please reply! Or if you're interested in searching it out with me, also let me know.

That would be one hell of an abandonment, but it looks pretty new to me.

Whats the date on that USGS survey? I believe most of the bldgs shown on that map are long gone, since replaced by a few smaller, newer bldgs. Sorry to dissapoint

Ok. My bad. I was a bit confused. These are the Milwaukee County Grounds, which formerly housed the poor farm and county asylums. There are indeed some abandoned properties on the premise, hoever you also have active sites such as Froedert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin on the grounds. Might be worth a look sometime though, if anyone would ever be interested...

Might be worth a trip sometime. I don't know the date on the USGS... might be the 74 revision; I'm not very familiar with WI topos.

Ok, sorry to burst everyone's bubble. But there are no abandoned buildings good for UE in this area. The buildings you may have heard of are actually off of Swan Boulevard. If you are looking at the map, pan the map so you can view more land north of the pinpoint. The vertical highway on the left is US 45. Along US 45 a road bends off to the east (right). That is Swan Blvd. Right at that corner there are 4 reddish colored buildings. These 4 buildings were once part of an old orphanage. The orphanage, as far as I recall, was actually demolished many many years ago. But these 4 buildings served as part of the administration buildings, from what I have heard.

Currently, those 4 buildings are partially active. They do have cameras on them and are highly patrolled. They are admittedly in rough shape but still maintained just enough to keep them secure and safe from people like us. I believe they are mostly used for storage but are also available for lease from the county. Driving by at night, there will be a few lights on in the building. And they are not the same lights every night which shows me that people are in there. The county does not want to demolish them given their historical value as well as the architectural value of the buildings themselves. But unfortunately, with architectural value comes the inability to renovate and remodel/retrofit the building for new modern uses. So this in turn limits the ability to lease any of the buildings.

*pop* i think that was the sound of someone's bubble bursting.
