Whats left of Northampton?
< on 10/24/2006 12:36 AM >

I have been to a lot of different places, but had no idea there was a name for my odd hobby (urban exploration). I'm dying to go to Northampton State Hospital and now that it is being torn down. Does anyone know if there is anything left, if so how do you get there, get in, etc?

Main and rear admin have been torn down. But look out for security, they will shoot and ask questions later.

Everybody was pretty vocal about the lack of security in the fall/winter/spring of 2005-2006.

It was quite a free for all. Strings tied to bannisters leading into dark places and other bullshit.

I guess it's no surprise that the demo company is wise enough to get tight about security now. Liability and whatnot.

If you want to go be prepared to make your own entry, and be a freakin ninja while moving around.

If you have done things right people won't be sure if you have done anything at all.

Yeah Noho was pretty open for a while. I'm glad I got to see it a few times before it went.

Sorry to say, but it's too late. Last winter was the time.

I'll second that!

Use common sense, go on a holiday when there is minimal security. Keep an eye out for people, dont take 15 people and you might have some luck. Asking around here for advice will get you some good advice and also some BS from people who might not want you to go (that's not directed at anyone in particular on this thread, seriously as I don't know you).

A group of people were arrested in the NSH recently. Check out my other post about this for more information. You might just want to consider that security is tight and they will charge you if they catch you now...

Anybody want to go then?

Just so that you don't think we're all jerks here I'll explain why I personally would not go with you.

The hospital security has been seriously stepped up. Of course this won't stop me from going, and it hasn't. But it WILL stop me from taking people I don't know there. Exploring factories or easy hospitals is one thing, if something goes wrong you can usually recover. Going to somewhere like Northampton means that I need to go with people I work well with and trust, in fact if our team didn't work so well together in a recent episode I'm 95% sure that I'd be looking forward to my own court date right now. It's not even security really, more like unpredictability. It's the same case with any large site under construction, With construction equipment and workers inside the old static layout is long gone. Doors I've known to be open since I started up are now locked, hallways are bricked up and lots of other little events make the place a constantly changing and unpredictable puzzle.

There have also been a number of brand new myspaces or profiles on other sites with little or no history popping up asking how to get in high profile sites and who has been there. Add this to some other events and I'm a bit paranoid about new people.

P.S. careful for bike cops, those guys are silent, quick and prepared to chase.

Thank you for all your help. I think I will just go drive up there, at least I could see it from a distance. I know Smith College has a course on the hospital and I'm thinking about taking it. Is there a link on here with information/more photos about it? I searched but really did not find anything useful. I'm not quite ready to go to court over this, as I technically have a state job, with fingerprints on file. Does anyone have any pictures that are not already on the internet you would be willing to share?

They're right that it's never too late, I may have overstated the case a bit because it's depressing to think about seeing noho but not seeing the admin, but if you do it be very careful, go at a very odd time, don't approch the building from any direction that seems like a reasonable way to get to it, and don't announce you are going on the internet. Noho is probably the only place I really felt like I came to know very well in my relatively short career exploring. I had success even after security was beefed, but I took it really seriously and did what it took not to get caught. Plan ahead.
